Gun-toting bandit hits south Queens gas stations A gunman who looked to fill up on cash from three south Queens service stations this month remains on the lam, according to police. The most recent robbery attempt took place at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, when the crook came calling to the 76 gas station located at 108-46 Merrick Blvd. in St. Albans. Police said the crook — described as a man standing 6 feet tall wearing black jeans, sneakers, gloves and a ski mask — walked into the station, displayed a firearm and demanded cash from the employee. After the worker refused to comply with the request, the suspect abruptly fled in an unknown direction. Detectives said the suspect successfully robbed the BP gas station located at 117-01 Springfield Blvd. in Cambria Heights at 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 4. The bandit displayed a silver firearm at a 38-year-old female employee and demanded money. He would walk out of the station with $4,000 in cash. Five days later, the suspect failed in his bid to rob the BP station located at 105-15 Merrick Blvd. in St. Albans at 5 a.m. on Sept. 9. He reportedly walked out of the station empty-handed after the employee he confronted refused to comply with his demands. Anyone with information regarding the robbery pattern or the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, visit their website or send a text message to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577. JFK gun smuggler admits his guilt A Brooklyn man has pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon last week after he was caught bringing a loaded pistol into Kennedy Airport in April 2015, says Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. The defendant, Aquil L. Dunbar, 22, of Bergen Street in Brooklyn, was charged with seconddegree criminal possession of a weapon after a routine preflight security check at Terminal 5 in JFK revealed that Dunbar was attempting to pass through with an unlicensed weapon. The .25-caliber automatic pistol containing a magazine with six live rounds of ammunition was concealed in a sock that was inside a shoebox and placed in a plastic bag. The plea, which came in the wake of the anniversary of 9/11, highlights the danger that firearms pose to the public, says District Attorney Brown. “Firearms illegally possessed in this city pose a serious and deadly threat to public safety, and that is especially true when boarding a commercial aircraft. New York City — and indeed the entire country — marked the 15th anniversary of the tragic terror attacks at the World Trade Center this past Sunday,” Brown said. “Firearms do not belong on airplanes in the hands of civilians.” Dunbar pleaded guilty before Queens Supreme Court Justice Leslie Leach, who indicated he will sentence Dunbar to seven years in prison on Oct. 6, 2016.
