BY CHARLIE PERY editorial@qns.com/@QNS The Mobile Youth Dental Van will be in Howard Beach in a couple weeks to offer free dental assistance to kids under 16. The NYU College of Dentistry will be on hand to perform free tooth cleanings, dental exams, fluoride treatment and X-rays on Aug. 9 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the STARS Youth Center, located at Coleman Square in Howard Beach. Technicians will also perform any necessary fillings or sealants based on the results of the child’s exam. “Dental hygiene is one of the most important things to maintain, but it can be very expensive,” said state Senator Joseph P. Addabbo. “Even if a parent has dental coverage through their health insurance, sometimes the cost of care for their child can still break the bank, especially for families on a strict budget that cannot withstand the unexpected costs associated with fillings or even regular teeth cleanings. That is why I am grateful to the NYU College of Dentistry for the work they do with the Mobile Youth Dental Van and for the opportunity to bring this wonderful resource to my district.” Parents interested in having an exam or cleaning performed for their child must make an appointment prior to the event date.
