Shoplifter attacks security guards with ice pick at kids’ store: cops A man caught shoplifting at a Jamaica children’s clothing store attacked two security guards with an ice pick before fleeing, police said. The suspect was trying to leave Cookie’s Kids on Jamaica Avenue with the stolen merchandise at about 6 p.m. on Monday when he set off a security alarm at the door, cops said. As a store security guard was trying to restrain him, the suspect pulled out an ice pick and struck him in the lip, authorities said. When another security guard came to help, the suspect stabbed him in the arm with the pick, then fled the store. Both guards did not need to be hospitalized, cops said. Police describe the suspect as black, 26 to 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a design on the front, camouflage hat, orange glasses and two chains around his neck. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). 113th Precinct St. Albans, Hollis, Springfield Gardens, South Ozone Park, Jamaica, Addisleigh Park and Locust Manor Motorcycle rider dies in St. Albans collision A man died when he lost control of his motorcycle in St. Albans, collided with a car and was hurled off the bike, according to police. Pastor De La Cruz, 45, was traveling eastbound on Liberty Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on July 27 near the intersection of Farmers Boulevard when he lost control of his Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle, cops said. He hit a Jaguar, which was stopped at a red light, and slid on the pavement before stopping against a Nissan Frontier behind the Jaguar, police said. De La Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. Police charged the driver of the Nissan Frontier, a 59-year-old woman, who remained at the accident scene, with DWI, according to authorities. Man run over by own vehicle at St. Albans gas station A 56-year-old man was seriously hurt when he was run over by his own vehicle at a St. Albans gas station, according to police. The victim had neglected to put his Ford SUV into park as he was going to fill up his tank at the Gulf station at Merrick and Farmers boulevards around 6:30 p.m. on July 28 and it started rolling forward, cops said. As he tried to stop the vehicle, it ran him over. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition with severe head trauma, authorities said. Walter E. Del Rosario, 49, of Hunts Point, who was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on July 23, has been charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and petit larceny, prosecutors said. If convicted he could face up to 22 years in prison. His crime spree involved seven incidents in the neighborhoods of Elmhurst, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Flushing and Woodside, starting in 2013, according to District Attorney Richard Brown. Rosario allegedly committed his crimes in a Panera Bread and a Sports Lane store in Rego Park, a Target located on Queens Boulevard, the Love Culture store in Elmhurst, the New York Sports Club on Austin Street and Lucid Café in Woodside, among other places. Del Rosario is accused of targeting victims with strollers or approaching them while they were not preoccupied with their property, Brown said. In one case, Del Rosario allegedly took a dress from the clothing rack at the Love Culture store in Elmhurst, and used it to shield his hand as he put his hand in the pocket of his 19-year-old victim and removed her iPhone. Police are looking for a suspect wanted in five bank robberies and two attempted heists around Queens over the past two years. The latest incident occurred on July 22 around 4:30 p.m. at a Santander Bank on Northern Boulevard in Jackson Heights, cops said. During the robbery, the suspect passed a demand note but left without any money. The other robberies, which date back to July 2012, took place in the Long Island City, Astoria, East Elmhurst and Middle Village areas of the borough, officials said. In the suspect’s most successful theft, on Dec. 12, 2012, at a Chase Bank at 77-01 31st Ave., he fled with $12,400, cops said. Police describe the suspect as Hispanic, 30 to 35 years old, 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a baseball hat with a New York Yankees symbol on the front, a buttondown short-sleeved shirt, tinted eyeglasses and a black wristwatch on his left wrist, and had a light beard connected to a goatee. Authorities have released a photo of the suspect from the July 22 attempted robbery and a June 7 robbery at a Chase Bank at 77-01 31st Ave. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
