FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com JULY 21, 2016 • THE COURIER SUN 11 Mother dies and 9-year-old daughter is critically injured in South Ozone Park car collision BY REGGIE DEBRAH editorial@qns.com/@QNS The offi cers of the 106th Precinct in South Ozone Park are investigating a deadly collision that occurred on Friday, July 17, and are on the lookout for the driver who caused it and fl ed the scene. Police responded to an emergency call on Friday at 5:06 p.m. regarding a collision at 115th Avenue and 130 Street in Queens. Two passengers in a black 2002 BMW X5 were headed west on 115th Avenue. The BMW was speeding and ignored a stop sign before it hit a red 2010 Toyota Corolla headed north on 130th Street. The BMW hit three parked cars before it was able to stop completely. When police fi rst arrived at the scene they found a 40-year-old woman and a 9-year-old girl on the ground unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to the head and body. EMS pronounced the woman deceased at the scene and took the girl in critical condition to Long Island Jewish Hospital. The Photo by Robert Stidiron deceased was identifi ed as Zaalika Raasol of Ozone Park. The 9-year-old girl was her daughter, according ABC News. Police determined that the woman and the girl were sitting in the back seats of the Toyota and were ejected from the car as a result of the collision. Other two passengers of the Toyota were 47-yearold Azaan Rasool, the father of the girl, who was driving the vehicle and a 75-year-old woman who sat in the passenger’s seat. They were also removed from the vehicle and treated for minor injuries in Jamaica Hospital. The driver of the BMW fl ed the scene on foot before the police arrived. ABC News reported that the police believes that the driver was drunk. The passenger of the BMW, a 46-year-old man, was taken to Jamaica Hospital. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is currently investigating the case. So far no charges have been pressed.
