NYP Queens in Flushing honored for stroke care once again
For the second straight year, NewYork-
Presbyterian Queens hospital in Flushing
has received top stroke recognition
from the American Heart Association/
American Stroke Association. NewYork-
Presbyterian Queens has been awarded
the Gold Plus and Target: Stroke Elite
Plus Honor Roll Award for 2017 for consistently
adhering to the latest scientifi c
treatment guidelines.
“We are pleased that the residents of
Queens have the best possible stroke
treatment right here at NewYork-
Presbyterian Queens,” said Dr. Gary L.
Bernardini, chairman, Department of
Neurology. “Th is award demonstrates
the eff orts of our multidisciplinary
stroke team in delivering the highest
level of quality care for stroke patients
in our community.”

Th is measure of care requires a true
team eff ort, and every member of Dr.
Bernardini’s staff played a role in achieving
this signifi cant designation.”
To qualify for the award, hospitals
must demonstrate at least 85 percent
compliance in each of the seven “Get
With Th e Guidelines®-Stroke” achievement
measures for two or more consecutive
12-month periods. For the Gold
Plus designation, hospitals must also
demonstrate 75 percent or higher compliance
with at least fi ve of eight “Get
With Th e Guidelines-Stroke Quality”
measures.
To qualify for the Target: Stroke
Honor Roll Elite Plus, hospitals must
meet quality measures developed to
reduce the time between the patient’s
arrival at the hospital and treatment with
the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator,
or tPA, the only drug approved by
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
to treat ischemic stroke. Th is means
the hospitals off ers the most up-to-date
stroke care and treatment available.
NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is a
community teaching hospital affi liated
with Weill Cornell Medicine, serving
Queens and metro New York residents.
Th e 535-bed facility provides services in
14 clinical departments and numerous
subspecialties.
Annually, 15,000 surgeries and 4,000
infant deliveries are performed at
NewYork-Presbyterian Queens. With its
network of affi liated primary and multispecialty
care physician practices and
community-based health centers, the
hospital provides approximately 162,000
ambulatory care visits and 124,000 emergency
service visits annually.
