Led by principal David Morrison, the students gained an appreciation of the requirements needed to attend college and learned about available careers. Students with good grades, attendance, community service and a clean dean’s record were invited to attend the gala and enjoy a fi ne meal, dancing and soft drinks. The students were also presented with certifi cates of achievement for their hard work during the school year. Cambria Heights student has plan for justice Jasmine Delemos of Jamaica, a senior at the Virtual Enterprise International class at the Campus Magnet Complex in Cambria Heights, serves as the class vice president for human resources. The class operates as a make-believe business that produces and sells fi ctitious apps. Delemos participated in a number of volunteer activities, including visiting senior citizen centers, elementary schools and attending conerences in conjunction with New York Cares. She is attending Johnson & Wales College this fall and will be working toward attaining a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Her goal is to join the FBI as part of its Behavior Analysis Unit. Teens and volunteers help clean Cunningham Park The West Cunningham Park Civic Association (WCPCA) and the Friends of Cunningham Park recently teamed up with students from Hillcrest High School, Francis Lewis High School and M.S. 74 to spruce up Cunningham Park as part of “It’s My Park Day.” The volunteers raked leaves, pulled up weeds, planted new bushes and trees and distributed free trees to local residents. Coordinating the effort were the WCPCA’s Rosa and Benny Wong and Kitty Azhar of the Friends of Cunningham Park. The Parks Department and Campus Magnet teens learn about fi nance Students from the Benjamin Franklin High School for Finance and Information Technology in the Campus Magnet Complex in Cambria Heights recently visited TD Bank in Manhattan and met with bank offi cials. As one of the school’s corporate sponsors, TD Bank provided students a tour of the facility and had staff members engage the students in a roundtable discussion. The students learned about various career opportunities and the education background required to work in the fi nancial fi eld. Elmhurst student earns a grand scholarship Dreimi Fermin, a senior at the Pan American International High School (PAIH) in Elmhurst, recently earned a $1,000 scholarship from the Association of Dominican- American Supervisors and Administrators for being a model student and academic achiever during her four years at the school. Fermi’s family came from the Dominican Republic and resides in Lefrak City. Her activities at PAIH include helping teachers, participating in neighborhood cleanup projects and mentoring younger students. She is also a member of the school’s volleyball and boxing teams and served as an intern for a local dentist. Fermin plans to attend the SEEK Program at York College this fal and will study to be a pediatric nurse.
