Scaff old collapse
injures six
Th e scaff olding on a rental building
being constructed in Long Island City
collapsed on Monday morning, leaving
six people injured.
According to the FDNY, they received
a call at about 10:40 a.m. on June 26
about an unstable facade at 42-17 27th St.
About 50 fi refi ghters and other personnel
went to the scene, where six construction
workers were injured.
Five workers were in serious but stable
condition and one person suff ered
a minor injury. Th ey were all taken to
Elmhurst Hospital and the incident was
under control by 11:48 p.m. According
to a complaint fi led with the Department
of Buildings (DOB), workers were pouring
concrete on the eighth fl oor when the
scaff olding collapsed.
Th e building is owned by Rabsky
Group, a developer that is planning an
18-story, 195-unit apartment building,
according to DOB records.
Th ere are 20 complaints fi led with the
DOB since the site was purchased by
Rabsky in 2015, including several complaints
alleging that workers failed to stop
construction when a stop work order was
in eff ect.

Woman sought
for check fraud
Th e NYPD is asking for the public’s
assistance in identifying a woman who
used another person’s bank information
to cash checks at two separate banks in
Jamaica and Flushing.
According to police, the suspect, who
is described as a black female, entered
two diff erent Chase Bank locations, one
at 110-36 Merrick Blvd. and the other at
32-45 Francis Lewis Blvd.
Once she was inside the banks, the suspect
used a 45-year-old woman’s checking
account information to cash two
checks totaling $1,400.
Th e victim reported the theft to the
109th Precinct based in Flushing.

Two critically injured
in drive-by shooting
Police are investigating a drive-by
shooting in East Elmhurst this weekend
that left two people critically injured.
According to police, at 3:36 a.m. on
Saturday, June 24, a 14-year-old boy
entered the 115th Precinct stationhouse
and informed police that two people,
a 31-year-old male and a 37-year-old
female (who sources say is the boy’s
mother), were shot outside of 32-13 101st
St., while inside of their vehicle.
Following the shooting, police say that
the 31-year-old male drove the car to the
stationhouse.
EMS responded to the precinct and
transported the victims to Elmhurst
Hospital, where they remain in critical
condition. Th e male victim suff ered gunshot
wounds to the arm and torso and
the female victim was shot in the arm
and back.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Th e investigation is still ongoing.
College Point man
guilty in deadly drunk
driving crash
A College Point man pleaded guilty
to manslaughter and DUI charges last
week for his role in a crash on Long
Island that left an Uber driver dead in
April 2016.
According to Nassau County District
Attorney Madeline Singas, Bonifacio
Enriquez, 36, pleaded guilty to second
degree manslaughter and operating a
motor vehicle under the infl uence of
alcohol. He is due back for sentencing
on Sept. 12 and faces a recommended
three to nine years in prison.
On April 7, 2016 at 2:05 a.m., Roohul
Ameen, 43, was driving a black 2013
Toyota Camry eastbound in the HOV
lane on the Long Island Expressway near
exit 41 when his front bumper became
dislodged, prosecutors said. Ameen then
stopped his car, put on his hazard lights,
exited and attempted to reattach the
bumper.
Enriquez, who was intoxicated with a
BAC calculated to be at least .12, drove
eastbound in the HOV lane in a gold
2010 Ford Escape with two passengers.
Traveling at 69 mph, he approached the

victim’s vehicle, which was disabled on a
straight section of the roadway.
Enriquez tried to pass between the victim’s
vehicle and the concrete median
when the Ford Escape struck the vehicle
on the driver’s side panel, continued
forward and struck the victim, who was
thrown into the left lane and killed.
Enriquez was later arrested by members
of the Nassau County Police
Department and arraigned at Nassau
University Medical Center.
