Camp sites are available at all three areas of Gateway: Jamaica Bay at Floyd Bennett Field, Staten Island and Sandy Hook, NJ. The Jamaica Bay sites are open yearround, while the Staten Island and Sandy Hook sites are open only for the summer. Campers will be charged $30 per night to stay at Gateway, up $10 from 2014. The extra fees will be used to fund expansions of campground facilities at Floyd Bennett Field, and to add showers at Floyd Bennett and Sandy Hook. “We are committed to keeping the park affordable, but also want to provide visitors with the best possible experience,” said Gateway Superintendent Jen Nersesian. “The camping fees will help improve our visitor facilities and services with the addition of showers and new programs.” The Floyd Bennett Field campground includes 32 tent sites and nine parking sites for recreational vehicles (RVs). Up to six people may stay at a camp site; larger groups must reserve additional locations. Each site can accommodate either one large tent or two small tents. All parties must bring their own tents and sleeping bags. While staying at Floyd Bennett Field, campers can enjoy an abundance of outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, archery and swimming. Each campsite has a picnic table, a charcoal grill and a fire ring, with restrooms and showers located nearby. The campgrounds also has a store selling essential items such as firewood, water and snacks. Glass containers, alcoholic bevergages and other charcoal grills are not permitted; pets are not permitted on tent sites. The RV locations do not have water, sewer or electrical hookups. Campground showers are open every day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through October. Floyd Bennett Field is located off Exit 11 on the Belt Parkway and is accessible via public transportation. The Q35 bus line runs along nearby Flatbush Avenue and stops at the Flatbush-Nostrand Avenues station on the 2 and 5 line, located about a 15-minute bus ride away from the field.
