In several of the robberies, the suspect punches the victim in the face before running off with the property, cops said. The first incident occurred on Nov. 12, 2012, near 31st Drive and 140th Street. The suspect approached the 58-year-old victim about 10:15 p.m. as he was walking down the street, slugged him and attempted to take his property, police said. The perpetrator then fl ed before taking anything. The suspect committed two more attempted robberies and six more thefts between Nov. 3, 2013, and March 17 of this year. Cops have released a photo connected to a Feb. 13 robbery near Maple Avenue and Main Street, where the suspect snatched a purse from a 40-year-old woman. The photo shows the suspect entering a CVS store at 157-05 Cross Bay Blvd., then using the victim’s credit card to purchase items, according to offi cials. The argument took place on the Union Turnpike station’s E train platform at about 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, according to police. After the suspect stabbed the man, he fl ed and boarded a bus. Police stopped the bus, but he took off again on foot, cops said. The NYPD, using its canine unit, was eventually able to track the 35-year-old suspect to a backyard and apprehend him. Photo: NYPD Transit Bureau A Long Island City taxi driver has been busted for evading more than $28,000 in tolls by “piggybacking” on cars through Robert F. Kennedy Bridge E-Z Pass lanes. The cabbie, 69-year-old Rodolfo Sanchez, is accused of crossing the bridge without paying the toll more than 3,000 times over a two-year period, between 2010 and 2012, District Attorney Richard Brown said. Sanchez was able to avoid the tolls by tailgating the vehicle in front of his yellow cab and letting both cars go through the bridge’s E-Z Pass lanes before the barrier came down, the district attorney said. He was eventually caught, according to Brown, when it was discovered that an E-Z Pass tag that was previously reported lost was regularly crossing the bridge’s toll plazas without making a payment. The pass had become invalid in 2011, but it was still emitting a signal to the E-Z Pass readers on the bridge, Brown said. Sanchez allegedly told investigators that he knew that the E-Z Pass was no good but he used it because he needed money for his family. Sanchez was arraigned on Thursday, April 17 and charged with grand larceny, theft of services and criminal possession of stolen property, prosecutors said. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. Photo: NYPD queenscourier.com
