According to the Fire Department, the seven-alarm fire started at around 11 p.m. on Saturday night, March 4, inside a store at 110-14 Liberty Ave., and quickly spread to adjoining structures. It is believed high winds on Saturday night helped move the fire quickly from building to building. More than 200 firefighters from across Queens rushed to the scene along with EMS units and the 106th Precinct. While all residents were safely removed from the buildings, one firefighter had to deploy a personal safety system – a special rope and hook – to evacuate a burning structure as fire spread above him. Only one resident was reported injured, having suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The American Red Cross said it provided assistance to 23 adults and eight children displaced as a result of the inferno. 107nd Precinct Jamaica, Flushing, Fresh Meadows Gunman robs Jamaica cellphone store Police are looking for a man who made off with two iPhones after robbing a Jamaica cellphone shop at gunpoint on Saturday afternoon.
