CIMINO & CRISTABELLE TUMOLA 102ND PRECINCT Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill East, Richmond Hill, Woodhaven and the northern part of Ozone Park Man killed trying to cross Woodhaven Boulevard On Wednesday, February 13, police responded to a 9-1-1 call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection s of Woodhaven Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed the victim, a 67-yearold man, in the street with trauma to his head and face. Police determined that the man was on the middle island at Woodhaven Boulevard attempting to walk westbound when he stepped off the island into the street and was struck by a 2002 Honda Accord traveling northbound on Woodhaven Boulevard in the right lane. The driver of the vehicle, a 58-year-old man, remained on the scene. The victim, identified as Mostafa Mirbahar, was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. There is no criminality suspected at this time. 107TH PRECINCT Fresh Meadows, Cunningham Heights, Hilltop Village, Electchester, Pomonok Jamaica Estates fire leaves one dead, three injured An early morning fire in Jamaica Estates left one dead and three injured, said the FDNY.Police have identified the victim as 62-year-old Henry Schwan, who was found unresponsive in the second floor apartment of 182-30 Wexford Terrace, where the blaze broke out around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19. According to published reports, one of the injured victims was Schwan’s elderly mother, who was taken to New York Hospital Queens in stable condition. The fire is considered non-suspicious and is under investigation, said police. 113TH PRECINCT St. Albans, Hollis, Springfield Gardens, South Ozone Park, South Jamaica, Addisleigh Park and Locust Manor Fatal hit and run On Friday February, police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Rockaway Boulevard and 137th Avenue. Upon arrival, police observed the victim, Carlos Carlo, 65, with trauma to the body. EMS responded and took the victim to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Following their investigation, police say that a darkcolored sedan traveling northbound on Rockaway Boulevard, in the right lane, when it struck the victim while he was crossing west to east on Rockaway Boulevard. The suspect’s vehicle fled the location before police arrived. According to reports, Cheong’s live-in boyfriend was supposed to pick her up at a Forest Hills subway station on December 19, but she never showed up. There was no sign of the young woman until her remains washed up just across from 121 Bayside Avenue this past weekend. It’s unclear how she died, but there were no obvious signs of trauma, according to reports. The office of the medical examiner is expected to release the cause of death. Along with the crime description, the NYPD also posted a photo of the recovered weapons and drugs. According to the post, on February 1, a sergeant and two officers responded to a call of shots fired. While canvassing the area where the suspects possibly had fled, they saw a man exit a Ferndale Avenue home with a backpack, then return to the same house without the backpack. They stopped and questioned the man, and recovered the backpack, which contained a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun, a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun and 1.5 ounces of crack cocaine. An additional 179 rounds of ammunition were also found inside the house. The 26-year-old suspect was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. A 15-year-old girl was found dead outside a home in Rosedale, according to police. The body of Aeisha Sarooqui was discovered outside 245-07 135th Avenue around 7:40 a.m. on Sunday morning, February 17. According to the report, Sarooqui lived on Parsons Boulevard, several miles from where she was found. It is suspected that the cause of death was a drug overdose.
