Here are the do’s and don’ts for shedding pounds in 2015: 1. DON’T weigh yourself for a week after starting your program to lose weight. DO give yourself a week to shed some of the water weight that you have gained during the holiday season. Weighing yourself as you start could be discouraging and lead to more overeating. 2. DON’T go on a crash diet. DO begin by setting a reasonable eating plan that you can live with. 3. DON’T eat bread or pasta for 10 days. DO eat more fruits and vegetables to get your body back on a healthy track. 4. DON’T be vague about your exercise routine. DO sign up for a new exercise class that you will enjoy and that will rev up your metabolism. 5. DON’T be a couch potato while watching television. Try hula hooping during commercials, or every 15 minutes for 3 minutes at a time. 6. DON’T get into the shower in the morning until you DO 5 minutes of core work. Use a timer and do 5 different core exercises for a minute each. 7. DON’T try to squeeze into your skinny jeans. Instead, DO hang them in a visible place, and imagine how great you’re going to feel when you can “glide” into them again. 8. DON’T use the elevator. DO take at least the first 5 flights of stairs. Increase when this becomes easy. 9. DON’T just do aerobic exercise. DO add strength training to your routine to build lean mass and boost metabolism. 10. DON’T drink sugary or diet drinks. DO keep a water bottle with you at all times and sip, sip, sip. 11. DON’T think of your new way of eating as a punishment. DO get excited about being healthy and lean! 12. DON’T pretend that you have to go to the gym to get into shape. DO exercises like planks, push-ups, lunges, squats and crunches, which require no equipment. 13. DON’T beat yourself up for gaining weight over the holidays. DO love yourself the way you are, while striving to be fit and healthy. 14. DON’T tell yourself that you don’t have time to exercise. DO several short increments of exercise during a busy day. Take a walk during lunch, lift some weights before dinner. 15. DON’T forget to stretch. DO remember to lengthen your muscles and breathe deeply for relaxation. Tina de Lemps is the CEO of B.FIT.
