Ved Wadhwa, 56, was driving down 118th Street near 95th Avenue about 3:40 p.m. when he veered to the left, striking a parked vehicle, and then to the right, into another parked vehicle, according to the NYPD. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There were no passengers in the taxi at the time of the accident, police said. The investigation is ongoing. 106TH PRECINCT Howard Beach, Ozone Park and South Ozone Park Teen hijacks car after helping stranger dig it out of snow An act of kindness quickly turned violent on Saturday, January 4, after a Brooklyn teen helped his victim dig his car out of the snow, police said. Genero Placenia, 18, offered to help a 19-year-old male push his buried 2001 Honda Civic out of the snow in Ozone Park about 3:30 p.m., police said. But, once the vehicle was free, Placenia asked for a ride, then allegedly pulled out a 9mm High Point gun and robbed the driver of his iPhone 5, $60 and the car, cops said. Police later found and chased the suspect, until he was caught at 115 Logan Street. By then, Placenia had ditched his gun and shed most of his clothes, including his shoes, police said. The victim’s car was also found abandoned, lodged in snow again, at Logan Avenue and Atlantic Avenue. The suspect was taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment, police said. He was charged with robbery, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a weapon and stolen property. 107TH PRECINCT Fresh Meadows, Cunningham Heights, Hilltop Village, Electchester, Pomonok SUV fatally strikes woman in Jamaica A pedestrian is dead after an SUV hit her on Sunday night, January 5, about a block from her Jamaica home, police said. Mosa Khatun, 38, was crossing the street at 169th Street and Highland Avenue at about 9 p.m., when a Nissan Pathfi nder Armada struck her, according to the NYPD. She was taken to Queens Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said. 113TH PRECINCT St. Albans, Hollis, Springfi eld Gardens, South Ozone Park, South Jamaica, Addisleigh Park and Locust Manor Shooting kills Queens rapper, injures three others A shooting in southeast Queens on Friday, January 3, left one person dead and three injured, police said. The incident happened about 4:10 p.m. near Farmers Boulevard and 134th Avenue, according to the NYPD. Jamal Green, 42, who was shot in the chest, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Green, a Jamaica resident, was a rapper who also went by the name Mazaradi Fox, according to The New York Daily News. He was a childhood friend of 50 Cent and had been a part of his hip hop group G-Unit, The Daily News reported. “Saddened by the news of Mazaradi’s tragic passing, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends #smsaudio,” 50 Cent tweeted Friday night. The Daily News also reported that Green helped raise D’aja “Asia” Robinson, the 14-year-old girl who was shot to death on a Queens bus in May. One of the three victims injured in the shooting was a 21-year-old man, who was struck in the shoulder and neck, according to authorities. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition. A 22-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital in stable condition. A 32-year-old woman was transported to Jamaica Hospital with a graze wound to her neck, and is also listed in stable condition. There have been no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing, the NYPD said. According to published reports, the suspect fl ed in a vehicle, possibly a black or dark-colored Hyundai sedan. Man sought in connection to NYC’s fi rst murder of 2014 Police have identifi ed a man wanted in connection to a fatal Jamaica shooting that was the fi rst homicide of the year. At about 1:15 a.m. cops found Julio Mora, 22, of Richmond Hill, inside of a 113th Avenue residence near Sutphin Boulevard with what initially appeared to be stab wounds to the chest, according police. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner later determined Mora had died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The NYPD is seeking Sheldon Smith in connection to Mora’s murder. Police described Smith as a 26-year old man, 6’ tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. 115TH PRECINCT East Elmhurst, North Corona and Jackson Heights 7-year-old boy dies in East Elmhurst fi re A New Year’s Day fi re in East Elmhurst left a 7-yearold boy dead and a 13-year-old with second-degree burns, police said. The blaze broke out about 9 a.m. Wednesday at a home on 90th Street near 31st Avenue, when sparks from a fi replace ignited nearby blankets and pillows, then spread to the furniture, according to the Fire Department. It was under control about an hour later. The FDNY said the fi replace didn’t have a spark screen and there were no working smoke detectors in the house. The 7 year old, identifi ed by police as Christopher Miller, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 13 year old, who, according to published reports is his older brother, was taken to Cornell Hospital with seconddegree burns, where he was listed in stable condition.
