Man shot in the
shoulder in Jamaica
Detectives are looking for the perpetrator
who shot a 25-year-old man in
Jamaica on the night of Monday, Jan. 1.
Law enforcement sources said the
shooting occurred at 8 p.m. on Jan. 1
at the corner of Sutphin Boulevard and
Jamaica Avenue.
According to authorities, the victim was
standing at the location when the gunman
approached him from behind and
opened fi re, striking the victim in the
right shoulder. Th e suspect, whom police
described as a black man, fl ed the scene in
an unknown direction.
Paramedics brought the victim to
Jamaica Hospital in stable condition with
injuries that are not life-threatening.
Police sources said the motive for the
shooting remains unknown.
No arrests have been made, and the
investigation continues.

Armed bandit wanted
for Briarwood holdup
Police are continuing to search for a
man who robbed someone at gunpoint on
a Briarwood street.
According to authorities, at 10:50 p.m.
on Nov. 25, a man was walking in front
of a home on Burden Crescent when an
unknown man approached him on the
street. Th e suspect displayed a black and
silver fi rearm and forcibly removed the
victim’s wallet
Law enforcement sources said the
crook then fl ed the scene in a minivan
that is believed to have Florida license
plates. Photos of the van were posted to
the 107th Precinct’s Twitter account on
Jan. 2.
No arrests have been made at this time.

Cellphone bandits hit Flushing
Cops are looking for three men who
robbed a pair of teenagers of their cellphones
in Flushing last month, according
to authorities.
On Dec. 1 at around 2:30 p.m., a
19-year-old male and 16-year-old female
victim were at the intersection of College
Point Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue
when they were approached from behind
by three suspects, law enforcement sources
said.
Th e perpetrators then pushed the teenagers
down, stole both of their Apple
iPhone 7 Plus phones and fl ed in an
unknown direction.
Police described the perpetrators as
three black men. Th e fi rst suspect was last
seen wearing white pants and a red hoodie
sweatshirt, the second a black du-rag
and red hoodie sweatshirt, and the third a
white du-rag and black jacket.

Burglar smashes into
Little Neck business
Cops are looking for a burglar who
shattered a Little Neck beauty salon’s
glass door and removed cash from a register
inside.
On Dec. 29 at around 6:18 a.m., a
unidentifi ed man used an unknown
object to shatter the glass door of Pari’s
Th reading Salon at 252-06 Northern
Blvd., law enforcement sources said. Once
inside, the perpetrator removed approximately
$200 from the cash register and
fl ed the location in a silver minivan.
Th e suspect is described as a male with
a light complexion. He was last seen wearing
a light-colored hat, coat, pants and
face mask.

Astoria & Long Island City
Senior man dies after
being hit by car
An 81-year-old man has died of injuries
aft er being struck by a car in Astoria
earlier this month, police announced on
Dec. 29.
At 9:03 p.m. on Dec. 21, police responded
to a 911 call regarding a pedestrian
struck at 31st Street and 37th Avenue.
Upon their arrival, offi cers found 81-yearold
Soliman Leano of 37th Avenue in
Long Island City lying on the roadway
with trauma to the head and torso.
An investigation by the NYPD Highway
District’s Collision Investigation Squad
found that a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban,
operated by a 43-year-old man, was traveling
southbound on 31st Street while
Leano was crossing 31st Street in a crosswalk
with an unknown pedestrian signal.
Law enforcement sources said the car
struck Leano, then swerved to the left
and hit a support column for the elevated
train tracks before coming to a stop.
Th e driver did not suff er any injuries from
the crash.
EMS responded to the scene and transported
Leano to Cornell Hospital. Leano
died of his injuries on Dec. 22.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Th e investigation is ongoing.
