CAROL SHRILEY, of Ridgewood, died on
Sept. 10, at the age of 78. She was the beloved
wife of the late Kenneth Shirley, devoted
mother of Lisa Lackner, Karen Schilling,
and Deborah Como, loving daughter of the
late Charles and Edna Weick, and sister to
Edna Kehres Amaranti. She predeceases
her sister Jean Weick. She is also survived
by seven grandchildren: Michael, Kristen,
Chelsea, Ashley, Jonathan, Jessica, and Dylan.
Religious Services will be held by Rev. Matthew
Staneck at Werst & LaBella Funeral
Home, followed by interment in Cypress
Hills Cemetery.

AUGUST LOVINKAITIS died on Saturday,
Oct. 17, at the age of 99. He was the beloved
husband of the late Irene Lovinkaitis, loving
father of Patricia Rozell and the late Robert
Norman Daniel, father-in-law of Douglas Rozell,
cherished grandfather of Denise, Glenn,
Mark, Kristian, Ashley, Pamela and Robert,
great-grandfather of seven, great-greatgrandfather
of Maverick, and dear brother
of Mary Denowski, Diane Witt and the late
Eleanor Senz. He was a United States Navy
veteran who served during World War II and
a member of the Frank Kowalinski Post and
American Legion Post 783 of Maspeth. Funeral
services will be held Papvero Funeral
Home on Friday, Oct. 23, from 9:d0 to 11:30
a.m., followed by interment at St. John Cemetery,
Middle Village, under the direction of
Papavero Funeral Home, Maspeth.

NORMAN IRIZARRY died on Thursday,
Oct. 15, at the age of 87. He was the beloved
husband of Milagros Irizarry, loving father
of Ernest and Felicia Irizarry and Madeline,
Rosalind and Milagros, and cherished
grandaft her of Miah, Andrew and Meadow.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran
who served during the Korean Confl ict. Funeral
services were held at Papavero Funeral
Home on Sunday, Oct. 18, followed by private
cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory, Middle
Village, under the direction of Papavero
Funeral Home, Maspeth.

LINDO MELI died on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at
the age of 101. He was the beloved husband of
the late Josephine Meli, loving father of Robert
Meli, Gregory Meli, MD, and the late Gary
Meli, father-in-law of Coleen and Catherine,
cherished grandfather of Jean, Joseph, Robert
Jr., Peter, Julia and Laura, great-grandfather of
Caitlin , Jillian, Anthony, Juli and Mateo, and
dear brother of the late Emilio and Jeanette
Meli. He was a United States Army veteran
who served during World War II. He was
the proud founder of the St. Mary’s Drama
Guild and directed and performed in countless
theatrical performances throughout his
life. A Mass of Christian Burial was off ered
at St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, Oct. 21,
followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery,
Woodside, under the direction of Papavero
Funeral Home, Maspeth.

Oct. 17, at the age of 85. She was the beloved
mother of Rocco Gerace, John Gerace, Benjamin
Gerace, Paul Gerace, Philip Gerace,
Janeen Gerace and Anthony Gerace, loving
grandmother of Crystal, Casondra, Benny,
Jonathan, Alyssa, Jessica, Christopher, Kristen,
Justine, Emma, and Megan, and greatgrandmother
of Madison, Hailey, and Mariah.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be off ered at
St. Anthony’s Church on Saturday, Oct. 24,
followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory,
Middle Village, under the direction of
Papavero Funeral Home, Maspeth.

JOHN L. MADRI died on Monday, Oct. 19,
at the age of 71. He was the beloved husband
of Martha Jane Madri. He was a dedicated
English teacher at St. Francis Preparatory
High School of Fresh Meadows for over 48
years and avid patron of the performing arts.
In lieu of fl owers, memorial donations may
be made the charity of your choice related to
education, animal care or the arts —all areas
that he was very passionate about throughout
his life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered
at Our Lady of Hope Church on Friday,
Oct. 23, at 1:15 p.m., followed by interment at
Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens, under
the direction of Papavero Funeral Home.
