Topos bookstore has a jar up front for any patrons to contribute whatever they want or can to the protest camp at Standing Rock, courtesy of Woodbine. Topos Bookstore is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the weekdays, and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the weekends, has a nicely stacked selection of books, has no Wi-Fi, and serves coffee drinks to get those conversations started. (Topos Bookstore Cafe is located at 788 Woodward Ave.) Friday, Sept. 16 Show: Spritzer (EP release), VERY Fresh, Milan to Minsk, Granny @ The Footlight. With Spritzer celebrating their EP release and Milan To Minsk’s tour kickoff, Friday night at The Footlight is bound to be a solid night of rock music. If you haven’t seen a show at The Footlight yet, be prepared to experience some seriously excellent sound quality. The show features four bands in total and lasts from 8 to 11 p.m. (465 Seneca Ave.) Saturday, Sept. 17 Karaoke: Kings of Karaoke @ Sweet Jane’s. Loosen up and come out for some singing at Sweet Jane’s first edition of their Saturday night karaoke. The singing starts at 10 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m., so you have plenty of time to wet your whistle before having a little fun! Promising to be the “largest live entertainment performance on the entire block,” this block party will likely be hard to miss if you’re out and about on Myrtle Avenue come Saturday, so get down, Ridgewood. Whether or not you’re an experienced painter, you’re invited to help workshop and lend your artistic eye to paintings at Woodbine from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Saturday. Painters are encouraged to bring one to three pieces or images of their work for the salon. There’s also the option of taking a field trip to your home or studio if it’s nearby, as well. It’s been a while since the last Ridgewood Market, and we missed it! The artisan market is stacked with 40 vendors that you don’t want to miss. Find everything from cute crochet accessories, to chic vintage clothes, to artisanal bread rolls (and so much more)! Myrtle Avenue between Forest and Wyckoff avenues is preparing another street festival from noon to 6 p.m. this coming Sunday, Sept. 18.
