WILLIAM L. ABEL of Middle Village
died on Friday, August 25, at the age
of 74. A native of Brooklyn, he was
the beloved husband of Susanne and
a veteran of the U.S. Army. Services
were off ered at graveside at Calverton
National Cemetery, Calverton,
NY, under the direction of Morton
Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels,
663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood.

TERESA FAZZOLARI died on
Thursday, August 24, at the age of
83. She was the wife of the late Frank
Fazzolari, loving mother of Savino
Fazzolari, Robert Fazzolari and the
late Gina Fazzolari and dear sister of
Domenico, Rosa and Rocco. She was
also a cherished aunt to many loving
nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian
Burial was off ered on Tuesday,
August 29, at St. Stanislaus Church,
Maspeth, followed by interment at
Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Flushing,
under the direction of Papavero
Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave.,
Maspeth.

GLORIA M. RAKOWSKY died on
Monday, August 21, at the age of 84.
She was the wife of the late Walter
A. Rakowsky, loving mother of
Gabby Brady and Brenda Sommella,
mother-in-law of Austin and Ronnie,
cherished grandmother of Michael
and Wanda, Laura and Christopher
and great-grandmother of Dylan.
Services were offered on Friday,
August 25, at Papavero Funeral Home,
72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth, followed
by interment at Calverton National
Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
Dr. Polly Hochberg, wife
of Myrtle Avenue BID
chairman, remembered
Dr. Polly Etkind Hochberg,
wife of Myrtle Avenue Business
Improvement District
chairman Herman Hochberg, died
on Friday, Aug. 25, following an
illness.
Polly Hochberg was an accomplished
research scientist who
worked for numerous medical
institutions in New York, including
Rockefeller Hospital, Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center and Mount Sinai Hospital.
She was also an associate professor
at New York Medical College.
“She was my inspiration,” Herman
Hochberg remembered. “She felt it
was important to always give back to
the community.”
Herman Hochberg serves as president
of the Park East Synagogue in
Manhattan, and Polly Hochberg was
an active member of the congregation.
Through her work with the synagogue’s
Sisterhood and Men’s Club, she
helped educate generations of young
people about the Jewish faith. In an
obituary published in The New York
Times, the synagogue proclaimed her
as a “Woman of Valor” whose “life was
a blessing and inspiration.”
Polly Hochberg is also survived by
her daughter, Marisa, sister Barbara
Etkind and brother-in-law Rabbi Jack
A. Luxemberg.
Services were off ered on Monday,
Aug. 28, at Park East Synagogue,
followed by interment at Knollwood
Park Cemetery, Ridgewood, under
the direction of Plaza Jewish Community
Chapel.
