Maspeth streets were filled with patriots on Sunday, May 24, for the community’s annual Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by the United Veterans and Fraternal Organizations of Maspeth. Various elected officials, including Assemblywoman Margaret Markey, attended and offered special gratitude to two Maspeth veterans who served as the parade’s grand marshals, James Desio and William Aronowicz, both of whom are World War II veterans. Old Glory also flew proudly in Forest Hills Sunday afternoon for the community’s Memorial Day march, sponsored by the American Legion Continental Post 1424. On Monday, May 25, Ridgewood and Glendale residents got their turn to salute America’s soldiers during the community’s Memorial Day Parade, which this year began at Glendale Memorial Triangle and then proceeded west along Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood. The Allied Veterans Committee of Ridgewood and Glendale again sponsored this year’s march.
