OBITUARIES
JANICE ANN BLIEKA died Wednesday, May 12, at the age of 80. She
was the beloved wife of Alfred Blieka, loving mother of Cynthia Curtiss,
Cristopher Blieka, Judy Blieka and the late Laura Blieka, cherished
grandmother of Jennifer Limberg, Rachel Wysocki, Alexa Curtiss and
Loralie Landesman, and great-grandmother of Rebecca Limberg and Noah
Wysocki. She was a passionate defender of all those with special needs,
leader of the Holy Innocent’s Guild and a dedicated community advocate
(COMET). A Mass of Christian Burial was off ered Monday, May 17, at St.
Mary’s Church, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery, under the
direction of Papvero Funeral Home, Maspeth.

MICHAEL PASCALE died Friday, March 26, at the age of 55. He was
the beloved brother of Maria Raguso and brother-in-law of Thomas, loving
son of the late Anthony and Claire Pascale, and cherished uncle of
Claire and James. In lieu of fl owers, memorial donations may be made
to American Cancer Society, National MS Society, or the Lieutenant Michael
Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund. Private cremation was held
Tuesday, March 30, at All Souls Crematory. Memorial Mass was off ered
at Our Lady of Hope Church on Friday, May 14, followed by interment of
cremated remains at Lutheran All-Faiths Cemetery, under the direction
of Papvero Funeral Home, Maspeth.

DOUGLAS ALEXANDER MAHONEY died Saturday, May 1, at the age
of 79. He was the beloved husband of Anne Charlotte Mahoney, loving
father of Lynn (Charles Ponce de Leon), Christine (Erik Jaff e), Eileen, Kelly
(Michael Brethel Jr.) and Michael (Heather Gallo), cherished grandfather of
Caroline, Christopher, Mara, Morgan, Alexander and Victoria, and dear
brother of Neil Mahoney (Anne Marie) and brother-in-law of Margaret.
He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of fl owers,
memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be off ered at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, May 24, at
St. Margaret’s Church, followed by interment at St. John Cemetery, under
the direction of Papvero Funeral Home, Maspeth.

REINHARD SCHNEIDER died Tuesday, May 11, aft er a long battle
with cancer. Born in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia in 1943, he immigrated to the
United States at a young age with his parents, Edward and Elisabeth, and
brothers, Edward and Erich. Aft er being draft ed into the Army and serving
for three years, Reinhard met Renate while stationed in Kitzingen, in
Bavaria, Germany. They married in 1971 and moved to New York, where
they both enjoyed sharing their passion for the German culture. Reinhard
enjoyed spending time with family and friends, being involved with his
Schuhplattler Club, and loved watching Bundesliga soccer. Reinhard
is survived by his loving wife Renate; children Thomas, Michael (Annemarie),
and Christine (Alaniz); grandchildren Joseph, Leah, Markus,
Alexander, Mattias, and Paulina, and his two brothers. Arrangements
have been made at Werst and Labella Funeral Home in Glendale. In lieu
of fl owers, the family requests donations to be made to a cancer-related
charity of your choice.
