COPING WITH DEATH
Prescription for grief relief
The Greek dramatist Euripides wrote
these words 400 years before the
birth of Christ. Grief is the price of
love.
When we love someone and they
die, we feel the pain of grief.
However, there are steps we can
take that may ease the stress and
hasten our recovery.
Here are some tips that can help
the bereaved on their journey
through grief:
• Go back to work. If you had a job,
return as soon as possible. Work
is a healthy distraction from the
pain of loss. If you were not in the
workplace, ind a job.
• Stay it. Exercise can help you
both physically and emotionally
because activity provides an outlet
for stress.
• Enroll in a class. Not only does
taking a class provide you with a
healthy diversion from grief but it
also can supply practical knowledge
for improving the quality of your
life.
• Be good to yourself. Do not
hesitate to treat yourself to
something you truly enjoy.
• Take some time to write down a
list of things that bring you pleasure
such as displaying a vase of fresh
lowers, gardening, leisurely
reading a newspaper, etc. Then, try
to engage in at least one of these
activities daily.
• Volunteer your time. Another
effective way to get out of the
house and provide some grief relief
is through volunteering. Local
community groups or museums and
historic sites always welcome people
who can spare some time to support
their activities.
• Talk about your grief with a
friend. Expressing and exploring
your feelings with a trusted friend is
one of the best things you can do for
yourself. Talking helps relieve the
pressure, brings you perspective,
and keeps you in touch with others.
Cry when you feel like it.
• Read practical articles and
books about grief. Reading about
bereavement is an excellent way to
ind your way through this dificult,
uncharted experience.

ROBERT FELICIANO
March 12,1957 - March 17, 2022
Sergeant Robert Feliciano passed away peacefully at
the age of 65. He is survived by his devoted wife,
Margaret (Peggy) Carroll-Feliciano, his 3 daughters,
Erica, Micaela (Mickey) and Sarah as well as his
loving mother, VirginMina Feliciano, his beloved
siblings Freddy, Millie, David, Jorge and Eva. His
grandson Jordan and all of his nieces and nephews
Danny, Sheala, Allese, Sherine, Jonathan, Craig,
Crystal, Ashley, Christian, Joshua, and Victoria. Great
nieces and nephews, Vivian, Isaac, Valerie, Avery,
Aria, and Marielle.
Robert landed his dream job at the New York City Police Department in 1981. He
started his career at the 19th precinct. Succeeding into the ranks of Sergeant. He
was assigned to Spanish Harlem’s 23rd precinct. Shortly after serving as Detective
Sergeant at the 34th precinct. Bobby, upon retirement, landed a position with the
NY/NJ HIDTA led by the NYPD Intel Division ISC Watch Center in March 2001,
serving 20 years plus as DIO (Drug Intel Officer). In 2015 he took pride in expanding
his private security business, “Impact Security Services” alongside his young brothers
David and Jorge, here in the Ridgewood Community located on 411 Onderdonk
Avenue.
Although well-known and adored in his professional life, his most cherished job was
being the Boss Man of the family. While he took care of everyone he loved, he also
brought roaring laughter with his charming humor and corny dad jokes. His charisma
poured into every glass of wine and spilled onto the dance floor. A self-proclaimed
billiard shark, he took down any challenger. A die hard mets fan. The Coolest Cat you
could ever know. Quoted by many of his colleagues as a true icon, a dinosaur, a
wealth of respected knowledge, he was jokingly referred to as the Mayor. Holding the
torch of seniority, he will always be with us.
