According to the Queens District Attorney’s o ce, 18-year-old Angel Copantilta of Brooklyn and 16-year-old Izaiah Ortiz of Queens, along with a third unidenti ed suspect, allegedly approached the victim in the vicinity of Putnam Avenue near Wycko Avenue at 3 a.m. on Feb. 22. Law enforcement sources said the unidenti ed man asked the victim to use his cellphone. e victim complied and handed it over to Copantilta, who then allegedly took o on foot with the unidenti ed man. According to prosecutors, Ortiz allegedly told the victim to follow him to get his phone back. ey then headed over to Rosemary’s Playground, located at Woodbine Street and Woodward Avenue, where Copantilta and the unidenti ed suspect — along with Ortiz — allegedly went on the attack. ey punched the man in the face, causing lacerations and pain. Police said Copantilta removed the victim’s wallet and a pocket knife from his pockets, then pointed the pocket knife at the victim and demanded the password to his cellphone and the PIN to the debit card in his wallet. A er the victim complied, according to the criminal complaint, the suspects also took the victim’s shoes, jacket and sweater, then ed from the scene. e incident was later reported to the 104th Precinct. rough an investigation, members of the 104th Precinct Detective Squad obtained video footage which showed Copantilta allegedly using the victim’s debit card to make a $100 withdrawal from an ATM at a store located at 66-94 Forest Ave. at 4:18 a.m. on Feb. 22. Two days a er the mugging, detectives tracked down Copantilta and Ortiz and booked each of them on charges including rst- and second-degree robbery, second and fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree assault. According to police, the attack took place at 3 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, when an unknown suspect used an unknown object to stab and slice the 41-year-old male victim in his head and lower right arm outside of a home on 95th Street near 91st Avenue. Aft er the attack, the suspect — last seen wearing a red sweatshirt and white slacks — fl ed the scene of the crime on a bike in an unknown direction, law enforcement agents said. Offi cers from the 102nd Precinct arrived on scene with EMS units; the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police stated. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
