Three local Assembly members, in particular, received high-ranking membership posts. Jeffrion Aubry of the 35th District based in Corona was named Speaker pro tempore, while Aravella Simotas of the 22nd Assemblywoman Catherine District based in Astoria will serve Nolan remains Assembly as vice chair of the Assembly Education Committee Majority Conference. chairperson. Assemblyman Mike Miller of the 38th District based in Woodhaven will chair the House Operations Committee, which oversees the chamber’s functions. Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan of the Sunnyside-based 37th District—who made a failed bid to become the Assembly’s first female speaker—will remain as chair of the Assembly Education Committee.
