WOMAN DIES STEPS
FROM HER HOME
Cops do not suspect foul play in the
death of a 73-year-old woman whose
body was found in front of a Ridgewood
apartment house on Monday morning.
Offi cers from the 104th Precinct
responded to a 911 call near the corner
of Seneca Avenue and Weirfi eld Street
at 6:08 a.m. on Feb. 4.
Upon arriving at the scene, the
offi cers found Ramonita Aponte, 73,
unconscious and unresponsive on
the ground. Responding paramedics
rushed her to Wyckoff Heights Medical
Center, where she was pronounced
dead a short time later.
Police said Aponte lived on Myrtle
Avenue, around the corner from
where she was discovered. Sources
familiar with the investigation said
there were no signs of trauma on
her body, and learned that she had
suff ered health problems, including
an apparent case of dementia.
Her body was transported to the
Medical Examiner’s offi ce for an autopsy
to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.

SOUTH OZONE PARK
CAR THIEF GRABS RIDE
WHILE WOMAN SLEEPS
Cops are looking for a man who stole
a woman’s car while she was asleep in
the backseat in South Ozone Park.
According to police, at 5:30 a.m. on
Jan. 1, a 30-year-old woman was sleeping
in the back seat of her car near
Leff erts Boulevard and 111th Avenue
when an unknown man entered the
vehicle and began to drive.
The woman woke up, and the suspect
told her that his boss told him to
drive her home. The suspect proceeded
to punch the victim in the face
and continued to drive.
Following the altercation, the
suspect eventually pulled over
and let the victim out of her car.
The suspect proceeded to drive
another five minutes before abandoning
the car at 96th Street and
103rd Avenue.
On Feb. 3, the 106th Precinct
tweeted out photos of the suspect.
