LOUISE SCHUSTER died
Tuesday, Dec. 22, at her home in
Ridgewood. She was 90 years old.
Louise was born in Brooklyn, NY,
to Marie Stadelmaier and August
Zahn on November 8, 1930. She
was preceded in death by her
husband of 58 years, Bill. Also
preceding her in death were her
twin brother, John of Dallas, TX
and Charles of Ridgewood, NY.
Louise is survived by her sister,
Marie of Weott, CA. Louise married
baker William Schuster,
on Nov. 15, 1947. They had half
a dozen children and a baker’s
dozen grandchildren. They also
had eight great grandchildren.
Bill and Louise met in Tannersville,
NY. Bill was lost and asked
Louise for directions to the local
Catholic church. They were
engaged that same year in Times
Square on New Year’s Eve. She
is survived by her six children:
Linda Schuster-Pepe (Emidio) of
Temecula, CA, William (Linda)
of Phoenix, AZ, John (Ardel) of
Phoenix, AZ, Nancy DiCarmine
(Filippo) of Lynbrook, NY, Kathryn
Anderson (George) of Monroe,
NY and Thomas (Pamela) of
Huntington, NY. Louise’s parents
moved the family to Wiesensteig,
Germany when she was an infant
and stayed there for several
years. Louise, in keeping with her
German heritage, loved pretzels
(both hard and soft ) and Pilsner
beer. Her lentils were legendary
and will be sorely missed by all
fortunate enough to have tasted
them. New Year’s eve meant eating
herring at midnight for good
luck. After Bill’s retirement, they
wintered in Mesa, AZ and had
the opportunity to travel. They
enjoyed traveling on bus tours
with the Franciscans. She was a
member of St. Matthias Catholic
Church for over 80 years. Louise
fought the good fight, she finished
the race and kept her Catholic
faith. We will miss her generous
spirit and the “Call the Midwife”
marathons. Visitation was held at
Werst and LaBella Funeral Home
on Jan. 1, 2021. A funeral Mass
was celebrated on Jan. 2, 2021 at
St. Matthias Church, Ridgewood,
NY, followed by interment at Cypress
Hills Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made
in memory of Louise Schuster to
St. Matthias R.C. Church, 5815 Catalpa
Ave, Ridgewood, NY, 11385.
