sentenced for grisly
2019 murder of
pregnant girlfriend
in Ridgewood
The Rego Park man, found
guilty by a jury in the 2019
murder of his pregnant girlfriend,
could spend the rest of
his life behind bars following
his sentencing on Thursday,
Feb. 17, according to Queens
DA Melinda Katz.
Anthony Hobson, 51, of
64th Avenue in Rego Park,
was sentenced by Queens
Supreme Court Justice
Michael B. Aloise to a term
of 25 years to life in prison
for the February 2019 knife
attack on Jennifer Irigoyen
inside her Ridgewood apartment
building, to run consecutively
with the 1 ⅓- to 4-year
term on the tampering with
physical evidence conviction.
Hobson was also found guilty
of criminal possession of a
weapon following the twoweek
trial by jury.
According to trial testimony,
at around 1 a.m. on Feb. 3,
2019, on the third floor of the
residential building on Myrtle
Avenue, a neighbor ran into the
hallway after hearing the victim
scream, “Help! Help! He’s
trying to kill the baby!” The
neighbor saw Hobson drag the
victim into a stairwell where
he repeatedly plunged a steak
knife into the body of the
35-year-old real estate agent.
Irigoyen suffered puncture
wounds to her neck, chest and
abdomen, along with numerous
other injuries. Officers
from the 104th Precinct and
EMS units responded to the
scene. Paramedics rushed
Irigoyen to Wyckoff Heights
Medical Center, where she and
her unborn child were later
pronounced dead.
Hobson fled the crime
scene with the murder weapon,
the knife that was never
recovered. He made it to
Pennsylvania but turned himself
in to law enforcement five
days after the murder.
“Today’s sentence brings
the defendant to justice for a
brutal crime,” Katz said.
“Inside the stairwell of her
apartment building, the victim
yelled out that the defendant
was trying to kill her
unborn child as he stabbed
her in the neck, chest and
abdomen.”

Bayside high school teacher
arrested and charged
after attacking student
A gym teacher at Benjamin Cardozo
High School in Bayside has been arrested
and charged with harassment and endangering
the welfare of a child aft er he was
caught on video slamming a 14-year-old
student up against a wall and wrestling
him to the ground.
According to police, the incident
occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 11:15
a.m., when Colin McNally, 58, got into a
confrontation with the teen who had just

fi nished playing basketball at the gym.
According to reports, the boy was walking
out of the gym with the basketball and
McNally took the ball and was heading to
the dean’s offi ce.
Video obtained by ABC 7 Eyewitness
News shows McNally, wearing shorts, taking
the basketball from the student. When
the boy attempted to take back the basketball,
McNally grabbed him by his shirt and wrestled
him to the ground. He then slammed the
boy against the wall, as students looked on.
Th e incident is currently being investigated
by the NYPD and the city
Department of Education (DOE).
“Th ese are incredibly disturbing allegations,
and Mr. McNally was immediately
removed from the classroom away
from students, pending the outcome of
the investigation,” said Nathaniel Styer, a
spokesperson for the DOE.

Police searching for
fl asher who pleasured
himself on Queens train
Police are on the hunt for a
Valentine’s Day fl asher who allegedly
exposed himself to another
passenger on a Queens train.
According to police reports,
the alleged pervert was riding a
Queens-bound R train approaching
Woodhaven Boulevard on Monday,
Feb. 14, just aft er 11 a.m.
A 32-year-old woman, who
was also riding the Queens train,
reported that the man exposed his
genitals and allegedly began pleasuring
himself in front of her. She
said that the man fl ed when the
train entered the subway station.
Police from the 110th Precinct
released a photo of the suspect, who
was wearing an all-black outfi t and
glasses during the time of the incident.
