Driver fatally strikes
10-year-old Far
Rockaway girl
A 10-year-old girl died in a
late aft ernoon car crash in Far
Rockaway on Wednesday, Feb.
9, according to authorities.
According to NYPD reports,
the young girl, identifi ed as
Davina Afokoba, was struck
by a driver on Beach Channel
Drive and lived just minutes
away on Pinson Street.
On Feb. 9 around 4:13 p.m.,
police from the 101st Precinct
responded to a 911 call about
a car that had crashed into a
pedestrian at Beach Channel
Drive. Upon arrival, cops found
that a 34-year-old woman driving
a 2009 Mazda CX9 had
struck two pedestrians who
were walking on the sidewalk.
Th e New York Post reported
that the driver only had her
learner’s permit and sped up
while making a turn at the busy
intersection before striking a
nearby building.
Police said that Afokoba
was pinned against the building
at the site of the crash.
EMS personnel responded and
pronounced her dead on the
scene.
A second pedestrian, a
33-year-old woman, was taken
to Jamaica Hospital Medical
Center in stable condition.
The 34-year-old driver
remained on the scene and
was also reportedly taken to
Jamaica Hospital Medical
Center in stable condition.
“It is gut-wrenching to see
a child lose her life at such a
young age, with such a bright
future ahead of her,” said
Queens Borough President
Donovan Richards Jr. “Th e
deepest condolences of our
entire borough go to Davina’s
family and friends during this
unimaginably diffi cult time.
Th ere is nothing more imperative
than street safety, let us
double down on our eff orts
to prevent another horrifi c
tragedy like this from striking
another community.”
No arrests have been made
and the investigation into the
case remains ongoing.
104th Precinct
Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle
Village and Maspeth
Suspect in Woodhaven
beer heist also sought in
two other crimes: NYPD
Police from the 104th Precinct in
Ridgewood have determined that one
of the men who pulled off a dangerous
beer heist at a Woodhaven gas station
last month is also being sought in connection
with separate robbery and grand
larceny auto incidents investigations in
the area.
Just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan.
30, the two suspects entered a Shell gas
station located at 90-05 Myrtle Ave. near
Forest Park and began to remove four
cases of beer without paying for them,
police said.
A 54-year-old employee tried to stop
them but they pushed him away and
one pulled out a fi rearm while the other
showed a knife, according to authorities.
Th e two men then exited the station with
the beer and took off in a black 2022 Ford
Explorer.
Th ere were no injuries reported, police
said.
Investigators say one of those men is
also being sought for using a stolen credit
card to make an unauthorized purchase
on Tuesday, Jan. 18, inside of 73-12
Metropolitan Ave. in Middle Village.
Th e credit card was removed from
a 20-year-old victim’s vehicle, which
was parked in front of 77-34 66th Rd.,
according to authorities.
Investigators believe the suspect is the
same individual who was captured on
video surveillance on Wednesday, Jan.
19, near Metropolitan Avenue and 74th
Street. Authorities say that a 37-year-old
woman left her 2018 Mazda sedan unattended
while still running and the suspect
entered the car and drove off eastbound
on Metropolitan Avenue.

Crook stabs Forest Hills
CVS manager during
attempted robbery
Police from the 112th Precinct
in Forest Hills are seeking the
public’s help in identifying an
individual who allegedly stabbed
a CVS manager during an
attempted robbery on Tuesday,
Feb. 8.
Th e 44-year-old employee tried
to stop a shoplift er who entered
the store, located
at 108-11 Queens
Blvd., at around
12:30 p.m. and
took cough medicine
and hair
products worth
approximately
$193, police said.
According to
authorities, the
man attempted
to leave without
paying for the
items and stabbed
the victim in the
left hand with a
knife, and struck
him in the face
causing a laceration.
The suspect
then fled
the scene westbound
on Queens
Boulevard, police
said.Th
e victim was
taken to NewYork-Presbyterian
Queens Hospital, where he
remains in stable condition,
police said.
At this time, there are no arrests
and the investigation remains
ongoing.
