A reception and award ceremony

and dance party featuring Kathak
classical dancer Abha Roy and the
Basement Bhangra’s DJ Rekha.
Each artist will introduce you to her
form and invite you to learn traditional
Kathak dance moves and bhangra
folk dances mixed with hip-hop. There
will also be bhangra dance lessons,
cooking workshops, and henna painting,
with Indian handicrafts and Indian

set done on a needlework canvas base

focuses on creating a jewelry trinket

Just in time for the annual celebration of Halloween, Queens-based
dance company Calpulli Mexican Dance Company brings its acclaimed
production “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) to the Queens
Theatre. Under Artistic director Alberto Lopez Herrera, choreographer
in-residence Roberto Lara and music director George Saenz,
the company tells a story inspired by the sentiment and colors of the
native Mexican tradition through folk dances, classical ballet and live

Explore the haunted side of Astoria during the “Haunted Histories and
Legends of Astoria” walk. The two-hour stroll through the neighborhood
features some lesser-known historic sites and Victorian mansions
in Old Astoria Village, showcasing some unsettling tales of the
neighborhood’s past, which includes tragic Hollywood film stars, voodoo,
potter’s fields, poltergeists and deadly waters. 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
on Monday, Oct. 30. Admission is $25 per person. Starting point will
be provided to ticket holders, but the walk will end near Astoria Park.
