Bayside cop welcomed back after Marine Corps tour of duty

A Queens native dedicated to
serving the local and global community
was given a warm welcome
home this week.
Captain Daniel Kim of the United
States Marine Corps (USMC) was
welcomed back from his recent
tour of duty in Afghanistan by
Assemblyman Ron Kim at his
Flushing offi ce on July 13. Kim’s
tour of duty began in November
2016 and ended last month.
Also an NYPD offi cer, Kim had
been serving his community at the
Bayside-based 111th Precinct when
he was called back into active duty.
Th e Queens native presented the
local lawmaker with an American
fl ag fl own during combat operations
in his time in Afghanistan.
Th e fl ag was fl own by Sergeant
Tyler M. Miles of the USMC
over the United States Embassy
in Kabul, Afghanistan, on May 2,
2017, according to its accompanying
certifi cation.
“It is powerful to see the amazing
work our community leaders
continue to provide to a place we
call home,” Daniel Kim said. “It’s a
blessing to be aff orded the opportunity
to have continued this service
abroad in Afghanistan.”
Assemblyman Kim said he was
thrilled to welcome home the hometown
hero from his latest tour of
duty: “His hard work and sacrifi ces
exemplify the very best of Flushing,
Queens, and New York.”
