It was the third time Emblem has honored New York City nonprofits in the series, and the first time Queens nonprofits have been recognized. The evening reception, lecture and awards ceremony was held at Antun’s in Queens Village. EmblemHealth’s Commitment to Care program recognizes nonprofit organizations that positively impact the lives of New Yorkers. The program honors the important work of successful nonprofits, and provides strategic advice through a lecture to ensure the nonprofit organizations continue to grow and serve their communities. Featured speaker Evan M. Kingsley, president of The Whelan Group, said the key characteristics for a successful nonprofit organization are visionary leadership, the ability to meet real needs, strategic planning and collaboration, effective communications and fiscal responsibility.   Honorees were recognized by EmblemHealth representatives and presented with an award by Earl “The Pearl” Monroe. “The nonprofits we honor tonight serve constituencies from various backgrounds and stages of life, but they all share an unrelenting spirit and commitment that allows them to be successful,” said David Flemister, director, Brand Strategy and Community Marketing at EmblemHealth and the event’s master of ceremonies. “EmblemHealth honors and draws inspiration from them as we all strive for a stronger New York.” The evening’s awards and honorees were: Commitment to Care Award for Promoting the Prosperity of American Immigrants  Haitian-Americans United for Progress Front: Beverly Collier, executive director, Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults; Haydee Zambrana, founder, Latin Women in Action; Gladys Keller, president, National Council of Negro Women (Queens Section); Michael Fahy, administrator, Saratoga Family Inn, a program of Homes for the Homeless; Marie Charles, deputy director, Haitian- Americans United for Progress; Rear: David Flemister, director, Community Marketing, EmblemHealth; Marci McCall, Community Marketing, EmblemHealth; Earl “The Pearl” Monroe; Ari Pollack, Senior Marketing Specialist, Brand Management and Advertising, EmblemHealth • Commitment to Care Award for Advancing the Independence of Homeless Families Homes for the Homeless • Commitment to Care Award for Enriching the Lives of Older Adults Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults Photo Courtesy EmblemHealth • Commitment to Care Award for Empowering Latina Women and Their Families Latin Women in Action • Commitment to Care Award for Cultivating the Leadership of African American Women National Council of Negro Women (Queens Section) Parker hosts 6th annual Senior Olympics The residents who participated in the sixth annual Senior Olympics at the Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation showed their competitive spirit or joy of life. From the parade of Olympiads and the lighting of the Olympic torch, to the games, including bowling, basketball and putting green golf, Parker›s Olympians performed with great pride.
