Johnnies begin quest for College World Series title
Aft er winning its league record ninth
Big East Championship, the St. John’s
University baseball team will begin its
Road to Omaha at the Clemson Regional.
Th e third-seeded Johnnies will open
regional action on Friday, June 1, with
a noon matchup against second-seeded
Vanderbilt Commodores. Th e contest
will be televised on the SEC Network.
Th is year’s Clemson Regional bears
a striking resemblance to last year’s as
seeds 1-3 are identical. Th e only diff erence
comes in the fourth seed, where
Morehead State replaces UNCG.
Entering the regional with a record of
39-15 and an RPI of 27, St. John’s will face
the Commodores (31-25) in the opener
for the second-straight year. Last season,
the Red Storm jumped out to a 3-1 lead
in the top of the fi ft h before Vanderbilt
mounted a comeback.
Th is year marks St. John’s 37th NCAA
Tournament appearance, tied for eighth
most in college baseball history with
Oklahoma and Southern California.
Th e Johnnies have now made the
NCAA Tournament in 10 of the last 15
seasons and 11 times overall under the
guidance of Head Coach Ed Blankmeyer.
Th e Red Storm heads to Clemson on the
heels of its ninth Big East Championship
in program history. No current member
of the conference has won more
than three. Th e Johnnies also claimed
their ninth Big East Regular Season Title,
another league record.
Nine members of the Red Storm earned
all-conference distinction at the conclusion
of the regular season, led by Big
East Player of the Year John Valente.
Blankmeyer also led the Big East
Coaching Staff of the Year for a league-record
eighth time.

Go for a run through Forest Park to help fi ght pediatric cancer
You still have time to register for this
Saturday’s Forest Park Four-Mile Classic,
a unique road race through the park to
help fi ght pediatric cancer.
Th e 26th annual event gets underway,
rain or shine, at 10 a.m. on June 2
at the Forest Park Victory Field Track,
located on Myrtle Avenue just east of
Woodhaven Boulevard.
Organized by the Forest Park Runners,
the race starts and ends on the Victory
Field track and takes runners on a fourmile
journey through the paved and
unpaved paths of the wooded Forest Park.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three
male and female fi nishers.
Multiple water stations will be set up
along the course. Free parking and bag
check will be provided. Refreshments will
be served aft er the race.
Proceeds from the event will be donated
to various charities supporting the fi ght
against pediatric cancer.
