Jefferson Pachon-Pineda’s streak of violence began on Aug. 22 outside an Elmhurst apartment building at 83-45 Broadway, officials said. He is accused of stabbing one of the building residents, Mukesh Patel, 50, that afternoon. The following day Pachon-Pineda came up to a 20-year-old man on an R subway train as the doors of the train car opened and punched the man in the face before fleeing, the district attorney’s office said. His crime spree continued the next day when he approached a 54-year-old man on Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst and stabbed him in the chest with a knife, according to Brown. Pachon-Pineda left part of the blade embedded in the victim’s liver, but the man managed to survive his injuries. Officers from the 110th Precinct located and arrested Pachon-Pineda at a Corona barber shop hours after the Aug. 24 attack; he was incarcerated without bail. Pachon-Pineda, a Middle Village resident, was arraigned on Jan. 21 on charges of seconddegree murder, fourth-degree attempted murder, first- and third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Pachon- Pineda, who faces up to 50 years to life in prison if convicted, was held without bail. -With additional reporting by Robert Pozarycki 108th Precinct Long Island City, Woodside and Sunnyside Hybrid batteries stolen from 12 cars In the past few months, car thieves have been walking away with more than just personal items when breaking into the trunks of some hybrid vehicles in western Queens. According to the 108th Precinct, since November expensive hybrid batteries have been stolen out of the trunks of 12 hybrid Toyota Camrys in the area. The majority have been taken from Long Island City. All of the vehicles, which can run on electrical power as well as a gasoline engine, have been taxis and include 10 yellow cabs and two livery vehicles. The batteries cost from $2,000 to $3,000. They also have no serial numbers, making them untraceable, according to Debra Markell Kleinert, district manager of Community Board 2. “The 108th is being proactive and working with the community to try to resolve this issue,” Markell Kleinert said. The incidents are currently under investigation by the Grand Larceny Squad and 108th Precinct’s Detective Squad. -By Angy Altamirano 109th Precinct Flushing, Queensboro Hill, College Point, Malba, Whitestone, Beechhurst and Bay Terrace Whitestone Pharmacy robbed at gunpoint in drug theft Police are searching for the gun-wielding thug who held up the Whitestone Pharmacy on Feb. 6, forcing the employees into a bathroom while he looted the shelves of hundreds of dollars’ worth of pain medication. The thief wore a scarf over his face and a dark hoodie sweater during the holdup. But instead of grabbing cash from the pharmacy register, he went right for the shelves and snatched $600 worth of an opiate called Fentanyl, police said. The drug is sold in patches — like a nicotine patch — and is prescribed to people with chronic pain and for pain management. Like morphine or other opiates, Fentanyl is a highstrength painkiller that is often abused by people addicted to opiates. Among Fentanyl’s legitimate purposes is treatment of cancer patients, who have built up a tolerance to morphine as a painkiller. The man fled on foot from the 14th Avenue store without taking any cash. Police describe the suspect as 5 feet 9 inches tall and 165 pounds, and said the investigation is ongoing. -By Eric Jankiewicz 114th Precinct Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside and Jackson Heights 78-year-old man attacked, robbed outside Astoria convenience store: NYPD Police are on the hunt for a perp who was caught on camera tossing an elderly man to the ground outside an Astoria convenience store so he could steal his cash, authorities said.
