Owner Herbert Cheng at New Golden Wine & Liquors explained that aft er operating for 10 years in Bayside, he decided to move the business just across the street on Bell Boulevard to a better, newer space. Th ough the space is slightly smaller than the original, Cheng said, the selection is better than before, and growing every day. “We have a huge wine selection,” Cheng said, who is also a Bayside resident. “We have a custom fi ne wine room in the back, there: I believe we’re the only ones with a fi ne wine room within a huge range. And we have a lot of rare Bourbons — they’re really hot on the market right now.” Cheng said the store holds tastings on Friday and Saturday evenings, where customers are welcome to come in, try new off erings and discuss the store’s selection with specially trained staff , who are available during all hours of business. “We know our products,” Cheng said. “We taste every single wine before we bring them in to make sure that they’re good, and they’re up to par … We go through a lot of tastings every day.” Cheng also explained that he had a designer come into the space to specially plan the layout and give it a unique feel. “We wanted more of a trendy, more upscale liquor store that you just don’t see nowadays,” Cheng said. Right now, the store is running some grand opening specials.
