Police, responding to a report of a burglary at JK Deli, at the corner of 71st Avenue and Kissena Boulevard, on Friday, January 3, noticed the ceiling of the deli and an ATM machine were damaged, the NYPD said. One of the offi cers immediately went up to the roof of the deli through a hole in the ceiling, while he called for backup from the Emergency Service Unit (ESU) to secure the perimeter of the store, police said. Once on the roof, the offi cer saw four men trying to hide on one of the roof’s side walls, the NYPD said. The suspects then ran in separate directions. One suspect was apprehended in an elevator of an adjoining building, police said. Two suspects were apprehended by the ESU from trees adjacent to the building, and the fourth suspect was apprehended by the offi cer after a brief struggle. No offi cers or suspects were injured. A fi fth man involved in the burglary who was waiting in a nearby parked vehicle was also arrested, police said. Following the arrests, offi cers recovered over $12,000 in cash the suspects allegedly removed from the ATM, 3,518 lottery scratch-off tickets, 162 packs of cigarettes and 49 boxes of cigars, cops said. They also recovered hammers, a pry bar, drill, fl ashlight and a propane torch in connection to the burglary. Robert Martin, 27, Jose Rosario, 25, Christopher Aulet, 21, Sean Martin, 19, and an unidentified 15-year-old suspect have all been charged with thirddegree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools, the NYPD said. Sean Martin has also been charged with criminal possession of stolen property. One killed, three injured in LIE crash An accident on the Long Island Expressway on Wednesday, January 1 left one man dead and three others injured, after their car struck a median and overturned, police said. A 2001 Nissan Xterra was traveling eastbound on the roadway near Parsons Boulevard about 2:15 a.m., when it hit the median, traveled across three lanes and struck the curb adjacent to the shoulder, before overturning and coming to a rest on its roof, against a tree, cops said. The front seat passenger, a 26-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver, a 31-year-old man, was taken to New York Hospital Queens in critical condition, with injuries to the head and body, cops said. Two rear seat passengers were also taken to New York Hospital Queens in stable condition, with minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing. SUV fatally strikes woman in Jamaica A pedestrian is dead after an SUV hit her on Sunday night, January 5, about a block from her Jamaica home, police said. Mosa Khatun, 38, was crossing the street at 169th Street and Highland Avenue at about 9 p.m., when a Nissan Pathfi nder Armada struck her, according to the NYPD. She was taken to Queens Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said. 109TH PRECINCT Downtown Flushing, East Flushing, Queensboro Hill, College Point, Malba, Whitestone, Beechhurst and Bay Terrace Cops nab U-Haul bandits Two men were arrested in connection with a burglary pattern in which U-Haul locations were hit. On January 4, at College Point Boulevard and 35th Avenue, police apprehended Neil Stephens, 33, and Dwayne Longmore, 31. The pair is charged with grand larceny, auto stripping, criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and trespassing. Offi cers recovered eight catalytic converters, which have platinum inside and can be sold for scrap. 111TH PRECINCT Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Auburndale, Hollis Hills and Fresh Meadows Fatal accident on LIE On Thursday, January 2, police responded to a 9-1-1 call of a fatal motor vehicle accident on the Long Island Expressway, in the vicinity of Little Neck Parkway. Police say a fl atbed truck, in an attempt to avoid vehicles which had stopped suddenly, pulled onto the right shoulder area and came to a stop. At that point, Andrew Ingordo, 31, of Riverhead, Long Island, hit the back of the fl atbed. EMS pronounced him dead on the scene. 109TH PRECINCT Driver arrested in fatal Flushing accident A man was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, after he struck another car, killing a 56-year-old woman in Flushing on Tuesday afternoon, December 31, police said. Anthony Zupnick, 24, was traveling westbound on 33rd Avenue in a 2003 BMW about 2:40 p.m., when he crashed into a 2012 Nissan near 172nd Street, according to the NYPD. The Nissan’s driver, identifi ed as Annamarie Tromp, was taken to New York Hospital Queens where she was pronounced dead, police said. 115TH PRECINCT East Elmhurst, North Corona and Jackson Heights 7-year-old boy dies in East Elmhurst fi re A New Year’s Day fi re in East Elmhurst left a 7-yearold boy dead and a 13-year-old with second-degree burns, police said. The blaze broke out about 9 a.m. Wednesday at a home on 90th Street near 31st Avenue, when sparks from a fi replace ignited nearby blankets and pillows, then spread to the furniture, according to the Fire Department. It was under control about an hour later. The FDNY said the fi replace didn’t have a spark screen and there were no working smoke detectors in the house. The 7 year old, identifi ed by police as Christopher Miller, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 13 year old, who, according to published reports is his older brother, was taken to Cornell Hospital with seconddegree burns, where he was listed in stable condition. Police said an adult family member suffered smoke inhalation in the fi re. Three fi refi ghters also sustained minor injuries, according to the FDNY.
