Detectives in Brooklyn are
awaiting autopsy results for a
corpse found bound and rotting
under the Riegelmann Boardwalk
in Coney Island on Monday night.
Sources familiar with the case
said three homeless individuals
made the gruesome discovery at
around 11:25 pm on Sept. 20 and
called 911 for assistance.
Offi cers from the 60th Precinct,
in responding to the call,
located the body under the boardwalk
off the corner of Surf Avenue
and West 5th Street. The age, gender
and identity remain unknown
at this time.
Police aren’t exactly sure how
long the body had been there, but
sources close to the investigation
said the remains appeared to be
nearly skeletal, clothed only in a
tanktop and boxer shorts.
The individual’s demise also
did not appear to be natural; law
enforcement sources said duct
tape covered the mouth, and their
hands had been tied with rope.
The body was transferred to
the Medical Examiner’s offi ce for
an autopsy to determine the cause
of death. The investigation remains
ongoing, police said.
