Comedian talks about her long, hard road to pleasure
By Bill Roundy She’s come a long way, baby!
A Fort Greene comedian has
finally had her first orgasm — and
she wants to tell you all about it! The
creator and star of 2018’s “Molly Brenner
is Not Coming,” will perform her new
show “I’m Coming” at Park Slope’s Union
Hall on Jan. 12. Brenner said she was
very happy to update the autobiographical
material.
“When I first decided to write ‘Molly
Brenner is Not Coming,’ I really hoped
I would have to update it,” she said. “I
pictured the triumphant sequel, with all
my adoring fans… Mostly I was just very
happy and elated.”
The hour-long comedy show describes
Brenner’s victory over vaginismus,
an involuntary muscle spasm that can
make any kind of sexual activity painful.
After performances of her last show, she
was deluged with advice from audience
members.
“Everyone had these tips,” she said.
“It was really heart-warming how badly
people wanted me to come. I felt this
community form around my orgasm. That
was really sweet.”
Other audience members told her that
they were grateful to hear Brenner’s lighthearted
take on a seriously personal topic.
“I think it is helpful to people who
have vaginismus or who haven’t had an
orgasm,” she said. “Everyone’s experience
is different, but I get a lot of people who
relate. People appreciate that I’m being
open about it.”
The new show, she said “goes a little
deeper” into the issues that were keeping
her from experiencing the Big O.
“It’s not just about ‘How does this
orgasm happen,’ ” she said. “It’s about
my relationship with pleasure, and about
things that can make pleasure difficult to
let in. It’s got some nuance.”
Brenner has traveled the world with her
show, performing at the Edinburgh Fringe
Festival, Orlando Fringe Festival, and in
Boston and San Francisco, but this will
be her first performance in her Brooklyn
home. Plans for future shows are “still
simmering,” she said.
The Jan. 12 performance will feature
two opening acts: comedians Ophira
Eisenberg and Dulce Sloan, who
Brenner said are both hilarious, and
who straddle the same sort of genres as
her solo act.
“The show’s at the intersection of standup
and storytelling, and I wanted someone
who got that vibe,” she said. “And I always
book people I look up to.”
“I’m Coming,” at Union Hall 702

HOW TO REACH US
COURIER L 2 IFE, JANUARY 10-16, 2020
BY KEVIN DUGGAN
A rash of hate crimes
plaguing Jewish Brooklynites
continued with a
pair of anti-Semitic assaults
around the New Year,
leading police to arrest a
24-year-old woman as investigators
seek two additional
suspects.
The 22-year-old Hasidic
victim told police that the
suspect — along with another
individual — shouted
anti-Semitic slurs at him
near Broadway and Gerry
Street shortly after noon, before
snatching his cellphone,
throwing it to the ground,
and punching him in the
throat, according to police.
Cops caught up with the
suspects shortly afterward
and charged the 24-yearold
with felony assault and
criminal mischief, but released
her 34-year-old accomplice
without charges,
according to a Police Department
spokeswoman.
The suspect is expected
to be arraigned before Kings
County Supreme Court
Thursday night, according
to Oren Yaniv, a spokesman
for District Attorney
Eric Gonzalez’s office —
who could not immediately
confirm whether they will
charge the suspect with a
hate crime.
The attack comes less
than 24 hours after two
knife-wielding men assaulted
a Jewish teen on a
bus in Sheepshead Bay.
The 15-year-old boy told
cops that the bigots snatched
his headphones while shouting
anti-Semitic slurs at Avenue
Governor Cuomo visited Williamsburg with Hasidic community leaders on Jan. 1.

around 4:30 pm on New
Years Eve, before hightailing
it out of the bus near
Kings Plaza.
The perps also reportedly
took off the boy’s yarmulke,
according to authorities.
The Police Department’s
Hate Crimes Task force is
investigating the attack,
and cops are still looking
for the two men, according
to a spokeswoman
The New Years incidents
follow a series of anti-Semitic
attacks across the
borough during Hanukkah,
which drew widespread condemnation
from elected officials
scrambling for ways to
address the sudden gluttony
of hate crimes.
Both Mayor Bill de Blasio
and Governor Andrew
Cuomo have directed more
city and state police to patrol
Jewish enclaves — and
the state’s chief executive
paid a visit to Williamsburg’s
Hasidic community
on Jan. 1 as a show of solidarity.
“Everybody feels very
upset and disturbed about
what happened and everybody
stands in solidarity
with you,” said Gov. Cuomo.
“So I’m here today, not just
for me, I’m here representing
all the people of the
State of New York who want
to say they’re sorry about
the tragedy and they stand
with you in total solidarity
and love, because that’s
what we are.”
But a cadre of local
elected officials representing
Orthodox neighborhoods
said that wasn’t
enough, demanding in a letter
mailed on Sunday that
Cuomo also direct federal
help from the New York National
Guard to protect the
religious areas.

Years assaults
