BY GLORIA BECK A Valentine’s Day SPECIAL Celebrating Kirk Douglas’s Centennial Birthday Photos by Dawn Steinberg Our “Fabulous February” meeting paid homage to one of the last leading men of “Hollywood’s Golden Age, Kirk Douglas.” It’s hard to believe “Spartacus” celebrated his 100th birthday this past December. He is definitely one of the most outstanding movie stars of that magical time in Hollywood history. Film historian Philip Harwood presented a riveting talk about Douglas’s career and how he started out as the “Rag Man’s Son.” I’m sure many of us reflected on when and where we were in life as each picture he made was playing in our local neighborhood theaters. Our schedule of events for the balance of the year is quite full. We have so many exciting things planned… On March 15th (7:30 p.m.—large card room) popular speaker James Coll returns to present a lecture on “The Boss,” Bruce Springsteen. His music and its message appeals to such a broad spectrum of fans. On April 19th (7:30 p.m.—large card room) Marjorie Gottlieb Wolfe, a well-known lecturer in New York and Florida will present us with one of her most popular presentations, “The Humor of Judge Judy.” On May 17th at 12:30 p.m., we will celebrate our 2nd Spring Luncheon at the Jolly Fisherman. There will be reserved seating and the cost is $22 per person, tax and tip included. To reserve a table for you and your friends, you need to send a list of names of the people you’d like sitting with you and a $22 check for each individual with the person’s name, building # and phone number. Make out the checks to “North Shore Towers Women’s Club” with either “Gloria Beck Building #2/Apt. 17G” or “Chickie Kaufman Building #3/Apt. 1T.” Call your Florida friends and include them as well! On June 7th (7:30 p.m.—large card room) we’ll be visited by a docent from the Nassau County Museum of Art who will discuss Halston one of our all time designer greats. On June 28th (11 a.m.—12 p.m.) we will conduct a field trip to the Nassau County Museum of Art to see the exhibit on Halston, followed by lunch at Ben’s Best. The cost of admission is $12 and a deposit of $5 is required for lunch. We are limited to 50 women and we will need your reservation to this sponsored event. Whether you attend the museum or not, you are invited to attend the luncheon with us. Where to leave the checks will be announced at a further time. On April 27th, another “Lunch Bunch” get-together will meet at 12 NOON at Buffy’s (Towers Restaurant). A $5 deposit will be required with each reservation. Please leave with Chickie Kaufman at Building #3; Apt. 1T DON'T MISS OUR NEXT MEETING! MARCH 15 AT 7:30 P.M. in the large card room Popular Speaker James Coll returns... THE BOSS: BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN NST Women’s Club South News Photo by Bobbie Gould On February 9, a beautiful day in Boca Raton, Florida, 22 members of North Shore Towers Women’s Club South went on an exciting trip. It began with a delicious lunch at Junior’s Restaurant in Meisner Park. After the meal and some relaxing time perusing the pretty shops or sitting in the sunshine, we traveled to the Boca Raton Museum of Art for a docent-led tour of the interesting new glass exhibit, with additional time to satisfy our individual wanderlust among the other sights the museum had to offer. What a great day and a good time was had by all! As lovely as our winter escapes can be, we’re all looking forward to our return to NST in the spring to rejoin our northern brethren and continue our participation with the larger group at our home base. Be well and have fun. Love, Bobby Gould (l. to r.) Gloria Beck, Speaker Philip Harwood, Julie Weissman and Rosalie Goodman Women's Club South visits Boca Museum of Art NEED FURTHER INFO?
