COURIER LIFE, OCT. 2-8, 2020 13
Opening in Bay Ridge this November
is Little Achievers, a day
care center for children ages 1
through 4 years old.
Educational Director, Jennifer
Cahill, says the school is brand
new, but she brings a decade of experience
to the endeavor. Cahill is a
certified New York State teacher, licensed
in early education and childhood
education.
After working at other pre-school
centers for years, she decided to open
and create the type of school about
which she has always envisioned – a
place where children come to learn
and grow academically, socially,
and emotionally. A Bay Ridge native
who has lived in the area most
of my life, the only logical place to
open up such a school would be in
the area she loves.
There are programs for one-year
olds, two-year-olds, three-year-olds,
and four-year-olds. Each of the four
classrooms will have one teacher
and one assistant. The teacher to
studio ratio for one-year-olds will
be 1:5; for two-year-olds, it will be
1:6; and four three- and four-yearolds,
it will be 1:10. All teachers
are required to be certified in CPR/
First Aid, and receive ongoing professional
development training.
Aside from indoor activities,
there is a huge backyard where children
can play and exercise.
A brief overview of the curriculum
is as follows:
Children this age are always on
the move, so they learn best in a
safe, loving environment where they
can explore. They will learn how to
count, recognize colors and shapes.
Support is provided for their newfound
independence, and they will
learn language and socialization
skills.
Children this age are curious and
active so they will be provided with
engaging activities such as arts and
crafts, imaginative play, rhyming
and counting. They will be taught
turn-taking, and they will learn
about socializing with friends.
Children will begin to practice
early literacy skills, math, and science
while they continue to grow
emotionally and socially.
Children this age are eager to
learn and explore, and the private,
full day Pre-K program is designed
to involve and engage them. Thematic
unites in math, literacy, science,
social studies, art and music
will be offered, providing a rich
learning foundation that prepares
them for kindergarten.
Throughout every phase of
learning, a warm and supportive
atmosphere will be offered, where
the uniqueness of each child is recognized
and valued.
Parent involvement creates a
positive experience for children,
so families are encouraged to participate
in the numerous activities,
parties, and events that are held at
the school.
To accommodate for easy access
during pick up and drop off times,
parking is available in the front of
the school as well as on the side of
the building.
