Southern Brooklyn
civic leaders and politicians
treated local police
offi cers to a whopping
80 pizzas last month to
show thanks for NYPD’s
work on the frontlines
before and during the
pandemic.
“The men and women
who protect our community
deserve our deepest
gratitude for their
courageous service and
reassuring presence every
day, but especially
throughout the unprecedented
challenges of
the last several months,”
Sheepshead Bay Assemblymember
Steven
Cymbrowitz said in a
statement. “We’re very
fortunate to have strong
relationships with our
local police, and these
pizzas are a small token
of our appreciation.”
The Shorefront
Partnership Alliance
— headed by former
Community Board 15
Chairman Maurice
Kolodin — hosted separate
parties for offi cers
of the 60th and 61st precincts,
who patrol Coney
Island, Brighton Beach,
Sea Gate, Gravesend,
and Sheepshead Bay.
Many area politicians,
local businesses,
and neighborhood
groups also pitched in.
Kolodin — who was
joined at both pizza parties
by Shorefront Partnership
Alliance Vice
President Butch Moran
— expressed his gratitude
to the members of
New York’s Finest for
their dedication during
the pandemic and their
continued efforts to protect
the community.
“Their dedication,
particularly during this
time of COVID-19, is extremely
gratifying,” he
said.
Reps for Assemblyman
Cymbrowitz, state
Sen. Diane Savino, Assemblywoman
Helene
Weinstein and Councilman
Mark Treyger also
attended the giveaways,
as well as Inna Vernikov,
who was representing
Bay Democrats Club.
