They’re back!
After shuttering its beloved
Bedford-Stuyvesant location
in early 2020, Brooklyn’s
Dough Doughnuts is
back with a new location in
Prospect Heights and another
planned for Astoria, Queens.
The doughnut purveyor
made headlines in 2020 after
Fany Gerson, one of Dough’s
founders, left the brand to
start up her own bakery prior
to closing the Bedford-Stuyvesant
sweets-slinger.
Over one year and one pandemic
later, the cult favorite is
back in the borough, and the

reception has already been
warm, according to the bakery’s
marketing director.
“It’s really been amazing,
the community has received
us so well,” said John Sanchez,
adding that the borough’s new
shop will be led by Dough coowner
Steve Klein. “It was really
heartwarming to receive
the support we did from the
Prospect Heights community.”
Dough’s new location along
Vanderbilt Avenue near Park
Place was once home to neighborhood
staple Joyce Bakeshop,
which closed during
the pandemic to the dismay of
many locals.

Sanchez hopes the shop’s
second-coming can fi ll the
void left by Joyce’s closure.
“The bakery that was there
prior, we know everyone in
the community really loved
them. They did an amazing
job serving the community,”
he said. “They gave us their
blessing, we got along really
well, we had a nice conversation
and we decided to move to
Prospect Heights.”
The shop is known for making
its doughnuts with brioche
dough in small batches. The
goods are made fresh throughout
the day, and are then dipped
in unique custom glazes — a
process customers can watch
live in the window at the soonto
open Astoria location. The
brand offers unique fl avors
like hibiscus, Nutella and
strawberry shortcake, as well
as seasonal and holiday fl avors
like a margarita doughnut for
Cinco de Mayo.
