BY JUDY DENSKY

If you’re looking to get out of town for a
day and enjoy some fresh air and beautiful
scenery, set your GPS for Bear Mountain,
about 45 miles north. Judy Densky recently
took the trip with friends and has shared
her adventure with us. The photos alone
will make you want to hop in the car pronto!
Judy writes:
Recently I visited Bear Mountain State
Park with friends. We walked around
Hessian Lake on the park property and it’s
lovely, a great way to visit New York State
to see fall foliage. We walked around the
whole lake which is 2.6 miles in diameter,
but there are many benches to rest and
enjoy the water, turtles, squirrels, etc.
Two-thirds of the way around the lake
is the entrance to the zoo which is a long
but picturesque walk past owls, brats,
wolves, and coyotes. There are even two
bald eagles who were saved and brought
back to health !
It’s a great place to picnic and bring
family and friends—and all of it’s for free!
Welcome to Bear Mountain!
And Closer to Home…
Le Havre resident Helene Oelerich
is known by many for her outstanding
photography. Her collection is always
on display at Le Havre’s annual Art
Show, which sadly can’t take place
this year. However, has taken a few
“walkabouts” right here in Whitestone
and has shared some of her beautiful
photos with us so we can enjoy the next
best thing.
Helene’s pictures, many of which
were taken directly from her balcony,
just go to show that there’s beauty all
around us, even right here in our own
backyard! Thanks, Helene! Lovely Little Bay Park
