N E W S A P R I L 14 L E H A V R E Hidden Figures Friday, April 14, 7pm As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women, known as “human computers”, we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history’s greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes. (20th Century Fox) Nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress. Rated PG Director: Theodore Melfi Writers: Allison Schroeder, Theodore Melfi Cast: Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe “This is a story that doesn’t need frills. It simply needs telling, and the fact it gets three dynamite actresses to tell it does poetic justice to both these women and the Civil Rights movement at large…lots of movies are labeled as “inspirational” – Hidden Figures truly earns the right to the term.” ~ Peter Travers, Rolling Stone 14 LEHAVRE COURIER | APRIL 2017 | WWW.QNS.COM Passengers Friday, April 28, 7pm The movie opens in outer space with the starship Avalon on autopilot heading to the colony world of Homestead II during a mass exodus of Earth’s population. Terrace Pizza Burger One of the many Terrace ice Terrace Tuna Sandwich cream desserts The Dining Diva: The Terrace Diner BY HELENE OELERICH If you’re having a busy day shopping in Bay Terrace and need a bite to recharge, the Terrace is a casual, comfortable diner serving delicious sandwiches, appetizers, homemade soups, burgers, chicken, fish, veal and pasta. Their salads and seafood classics, as well as their Greek and Italian specialties, are also yummy! One of my favorites is the tuna wrap served with cole slaw and pickles, and my husband, Phil, loves the pizza burger topped with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce served on a toasted English muffin.... and also, of course, the French fries! The restaurant also has a full-service bar. But let’s not forget dessert! The menu offers an array of old-fashioned fountain treats including ice cream sundaes and banana splits as well as an assortment of fruit pies and cakes. And if you’re out with the kids, the diner also has a special “Kids’ Corner” menu. The Terrace Diner is located at 212-97 26th Avenue in the Upper Level of the Bay Terrace Shopping Center. It’s open 9am-9pm, seven days a week. Phone: 718-224-4434 or visit terracedinerbayside. com.
