The polls fi nally closed in
the 2021 citywide elections
after early and
Election Day voters cast
their ballots on who will run New
York City for the next four years.
As expected, Democratic Brooklyn
Borough President Eric Adams
easily bested his Republican rival,
Guardian Angels founder Curtis
Sliwa. in the mayoral race. Adams
will replace the term-limited Bill de
Blasio on Janunary 1 as New York
City’s 110th mayor.
Democrats were also big winners
in citywide contests. Public Advocate
Jumaane Williams cruised
to re-election, while Brooklyn City
Council Member Brad Lander won
the right to succeed the term-limited
Scott Stringer as City Comptroller.

against Republican Janelle King
and Conservative Sammy Ravela.

borough president saw Antonio
Reynoso sail to victory with 72
percent, or 217,949 votes. Mark
Levine, meanwhile, easily beat
his competitors in the campaign
for Manhattan borough president,
grabbing about 85 percent of the
vote.
Donovan Richards of Queens,
who eked out a close win in the
primary competition for borough
president, handily defeated Republican
Thomas J. Zmich to
cap off his bid to lead the borough.
In yet another lopsided race,
Staten Island Republican Vito Fossella
had more than twice as many
votes as Democrat Mark S. Murphy
in the race for borough president in
Richmond County.
