REMEMBRANCE
Bob Brennan, Schneps COO, Dies at 68
Newspaper veteran leader at growing New York media group for 15 years
BY SCHNEPS MEDIA FAMILY
The Schneps Media family
mourns the loss of our
chief operating offi cer, Bob
Brennan, who died on
March 31 at the age of 68.
Bob passed away peacefully at
Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.
He resided in Babylon for 20 years
with his loving companion, Cathy.
Bob was the fourth oldest in a
closely-knit family of 10 children,
born to the late Margaret and the
late William Brennan of Little Neck:
Mary, Bill (deceased), Tom, Sue, Terrie,
Grace, Joe, Dick, and Dan. Bob
was a cherished brother-in-law to
Roger, Rita, Glenn, John, Karsten,
Mary, Marie, and Jeanne, and a dear
uncle to more than 20 nieces and
nephews.
Beginning as a paperboy, Bob spent
his entire career in the newspaper industry.
As a young entrepreneur, he
owned and operated newspaper franchises
throughout Queens and Nassau
County before becoming a newspaper
senior circulation executive.
For the past 15-plus years, he was
the chief operating offi cer of Schneps
Bob Brennan.
Media, where he was the publishers’
key advisor on every aspect of the
business — especially while leading
their expansion initiatives throughout
the boroughs of New York City
and into Long Island, Westchester
County, and Philadelphia.
Bob’s passions were running, skiing,
and playing tennis, all of which
he excelled at. His outgoing personality,
good humor, inspirational leadership,
and business acumen endeared
him to everyone who knew him.
The value Bob placed on the importance
of family and the example
he set will never be forgotten. His untimely
loss is also deeply felt by his
many work colleagues and friends.
In 1975, he married his long-time
high school girlfriend, Nancy, remaining
her dear friend ever since
their marriage ended. During their
marriage, they resided in Manhasset,
raising two sons who survive
him: Mike, husband of Cara, and
Matt, husband of Katie. Bob also
leaves behind Cathy, his loving companion,
and her son Jason, husband
of Molly.
A proud grandpa, he is also survived
by his precious fi rst granddaughter,
Chloe, born March 12 to
Mike and Cara.
Bob will be interred in Nassau
Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington.
In light of the current public health
crisis, there will not be a wake or
burial services. Instead, a memorial
service will be scheduled at a later
date.

“GMHC on the Go” Keeps Clients Fed
Hundreds to receive biweekly meals delivery during COVID-19 crisis
BY PAUL SCHINDLER
Adjusting to the realities of
distributing meals to its
clients during the coronavirus
crisis, Gay Men’s
Health Crisis on March 31 gathered
15 volunteers and staff members —
working as volunteers — to prepare
1,040 bags of groceries, each containing
14 meals, that will be delivered to
clients who in normal times either
access the agency’s weekday lunch
program or obtain food through its
pantry. The grocery bags included
shelf-stable items as well as some
fresh ingredients, as well.
“The onset of COVID-19 temporarily
suspended GMHC’s ability to
DONNA ACETO
GMHC staffer Durrell Knights.
provide congregate meals and on-site
food pantry service, as our building
operations are closed until further notice,”
Kelsey Louie, the agency’s CEO
said. “Yet, this reality hasn’t changed
our concern for our clients living with
and affected by HIV and AIDS, or our
commitment to stay connected and
maintain some degree of stabilizing
service. Presently, we offer support
to our clients online, and through
phone support and sessions.”
To continue its nutritional program
since shuttering its doors several
weeks ago, the agency developed
a “GMHC on the Go” design to deliver
meals to hundreds of clients. The
March 31 meals bagging followed an
earlier distribution where clients visited
the agency to pick up meals. The
“On the Go” delivery model will be
employed to get a biweekly supply of
meals to clients who depend on them
until GMHC is able to reopen.
