16 MAY OOuutt & About
Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 13 this year, and it’s a big deal (ka-ching!). In
2017, the National Retail Federation estimated that US consumers spent over
$23 billion celebrating Mother’s Day (wow!), with the average shopper spending
more than $185 on Mom (so don’t be a cheapskate!). Most people gave cards
(78%) and flowers (69%) to their mothers or took her out to eat (56%). However,
Moms do like a little bling, and more money was spent on jewelry (about $5
billion!) than on any other category.
Moms, take note: According to last year’s Insure.com Mother’s Day Index, the
various tasks you perform at home would be worth a salary of $67,619 a year in
the professional world. Be sure to inform hubby and the kids of this vital statistic!
And now, here are some humorous Mother’s Day anecdotes from some very
funny people. Enjoy!
“The way I feel, if the kids are still alive when my husband gets home from
work, I’ve done my job.” - Roseanne Barr
“Mothers of teens know why some animals eat their young.” - Anonymous
“I want my children to have all the things I couldn’t afford. Then I want to move
in with them.” - Phyllis Diller
“I can’t believe how much like my mother I turned out. I feel sorry for my kids.”
- Melanie White
“Never let your mom brush your hair when she’s mad at your dad.” - Gallagher
“Always be nice to your children, because they’re the ones who will choose
your rest home.” - Phyllis Diller
“I asked my mom if I was adopted. She said, ‘Not yet, but we placed an ad.’”
- Dana Snow
“For Mother’s Day I got my mom a case of Bud Lite. After all, I’m the reason she
drinks.” - Unknown
“As my mother said to me more than once, ‘Do you think you are smarter than
Einstein?’” - Albert Einstein
