Detectives collared two
homeless men Sunday
who are accused of
murdering a 19-year-old girl and
hiding her body in a plastic bag
inside an abandoned building
near Lower Manhattan’s South
Street Seaport, police reported.
Austin Boehm, 25, and Christian
Mercado, 20, face seconddegree
murder charges for the
death of Rosalee Sanchez, 19,
whose body was found inside the
building at 95 South St. on the
morning of March 6.
Sanchez was believed to be
a squatter inside the building
where officers from the 1st Precinct
located her body at about
9:20 a.m. Saturday morning.
Sources familiar with the case
said it’s believed the victim may
have been dead for several days
before her body was discovered.
Law enforcement sources
said Boehm and Mercado were
present at the scene when cops
arrived there Saturday, and were
allegedly linked by detectives to
Sanchez’s death as the investigation
unfolded.
Their relationship between the
victim, however, was not fully
disclosed.
Upon arriving at the scene,
authorities said, cops found
the 19-year-old woman inside a
second-floor room, wrapped in
plastic bags. Responding EMS
units pronounced her dead at
the scene.
Sanchez’s body was transported
to the Medical Examiner’s
office for an autopsy to determine
the cause of death.

Brute violently beats man before fleeing Chinatown
subway station in latest anti-Asian hate crime: Cops

Without saying a word, a hate-filled attacker beat
up and knocked out a man at a Chinatown
station in the latest bias crime targeting Asian
New Yorkers, police reported.
Cops said the attack happened at 8:50 p.m. on March
2 at the entrance to the East Broadway station on the F
line, at the corner of East Broadway and Rutgers Street.
According to police, the 56-year-old Asian man was
walking into the station when the brute approached him
and went on the attack. Sources familiar with the investigation
said the suspect did not say a word to the victim before
making his move.
Law enforcement sources said the brute punched the
victim multiple times about the body, eventually causing
the man to pass out. The attacker then fled in an unknown
direction.

This afternoon police and
emergency services responded
to an incident on
Orchard Street and Canal Street
after a car struck a bicyclist.
At 12:50 p.m. on March 7, a
woman driving a white Mercedes
collided into a man riding a bike,
where he received a bloody injury
to his face.
amNewYork Metro was on
the scene immediately as officers
and paramedics treated
the man who was sitting up and
responsive with his back against
a construction barrier. The cyclist
suffered what appeared to
be a laceration to the left side
of his face. Blood could be observed
flowing profusely from
the wound.
Emergency services transported
the victim to a nearby
hospital. It is unknown if there
are additional injuries. Two
female occupants were present
in the vehicle, both of whom did
not request medical treatment

The victim suffered head swelling, a black eye and a lacerated
lip, and was treated at a local hospital for his injuries.
Following a preliminary investigation, the case was
but they appeared severely
shaken.
amNewYork Metro observed
witnesses telling officers that
the woman driving the car was
not at fault. It is unknown if the
construction barriers and fencing
obstructed both the driver’s
view of the bicyclist as well as
the bike rider’s view.
NYPD officers from the 7th
Precinct were on the scene to investigate
and placed the victim’s
bike in the back of an NYPD
declared a hate crime and assigned to the NYPD Hate
Crimes Task Force. Anti-Asian bias incidents have been on
the rise over the past year amid the COVID-19 pandemic,
and the city has seen a number of violent episodes of hate
in recent days which have prompted community outrage
and calls for justice.
Early on Thursday morning, the NYPD released video
footage of the assailant as he climbs over the turnstile of
the East Broadway station.
Cops described him as a Black man; he’s shown on the
video wearing a navy blue baseball cap, a red bandana over
his face, a gray-and-blue sweater and sweatpants while
carrying a light blue jacket.
