Mother cuffed after infant was
found dead in Garment District
hotel serving as homeless shelter

A young mother is in
custody after her
infant was found
dead inside their room at
a Garment District hotel
that’s currently being used
as a homeless shelter.
According to police, at
12:04 p.m. on Jan. 24 the
NYPD responded to a call
of an unconscious infant inside
the Candlewood Suites
New York City, located at
339 West 39th St. Upon
their arrival, offi cers found
2-month-old Antonio Diaz
in the room, unconscious
and unresponsive, with no
obvious signs of trauma.
EMS rushed the baby to
Mount Sinai West Hospital,
Woman struck by J train at Bowery
station on Lower East Side

A woman was struck
by an oncoming J
Train on Monday
morning, police say.
On Jan. 25 FDNY and
the NYPD received a report
of a person beneath a train
at 177 Bowery, at around
10:40 a.m. According to
police sources, the person
in question was a black
where he was pronounced
dead.
On Jan. 25, police arrested
the baby’s mother,
24-year-old Alyssa Owens.
It is believed that Owens
allegedly slammed Diaz’s
body three times into a
hard object while they
were in the room that they

off power to the Bowery
station’s J line, allowing

Owens was charged with
three counts of assault and
one count of acting in a
manner injurious to a child
less than 17 years of age.

way, FDNY sources told

Emergency Medical Services
transported her to
Bellevue Hospital, where it
is said that she is expected
to survive. However, the
extent of her injuries have
not yet been disclosed.
MTA personnel could
be seen swarming the
location as they frantically
scaled and descended the
station’s staircases. NYPD
reports that the incident is
not ruled as a crime at this
time.
By 11:30 a.m., the MTA
restored power to the track
and trains resumed usual
service.
This investigation is
ongoing.
Cops seek bigot who used anti-gay
language in Union Square attack

Cops are is looking for
a man who punched
a man in Union
Square in Manhattan last
week and spewed hate
speech in an unprovoked
attack.
According to police, at 2
p.m. on Jan. 21 a 45-yearold
man was inside the
park at East 17th Street
and Union Square West
when an unknown man approached
him and punched
him in the face. After the
assault, the suspect told the
victim, “I’m gonna kill you,
you f—ing h-mo.”

rob, humiliate victim in Chinatown

A 12-strong gang of male and female
criminals robbed and assaulted a
lone individual in the vicinity of
Canal Street and Allen Street on Jan 22.
The group was made up of 12 darkskinned
male and female individuals,
and the motivation for the attack remains
unknown.
The victim, a 26-year-old male, suffered
lacerations to his head, torso and hands,
infl icted with an as-yet unknown object.
Cruelly, the assailants removed the
victim’s cell phone, pants, underwear and
shoes, in this broad daylight, 11:30 a.m.

well as a video of this outnumbered victim
being pushed to the ground, encircled and

The group of criminals disbanded, fl eeing
the scene in multiple vehicles while
the victim was removed to NYC Health
and Hospitals/Bellevue and is in stable
condition.

perpetrator as a Black man
