very best, according to the Jamaica
Observer.
The publication said on Aug. 28
that the rivalry has resulted in both
athletes closing in on the world
record of 10.49 seconds held by
the late American sprinter Florence
Griffith-Joyner, “which many previously
thought was out of reach.”
The Observer noted that both top
athletes had shared the Jamaican
national record of 10.70 seconds
until June this year; “and, since
then, have combined to run under
that mark five times.”

West Indies

Pakistan beat West Indies by 109
runs on the final day of the the rain
affected two-match Test series in Jamaica
last week.
Pakistan won the match despite losing
two and a half days due to rain. Fast
bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi wrecked
the West Indies first innings, taking
6 for 51 and four for 43 in the second
innings making it a total of 10 wickets
for 94 runs. His career best 18 wickets
in the series at an average of 11.28.

B’dos team to play
in Commonwealth
Games

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has
announced that the Barbados women’s
team will participate in the Commonwealth
Games 2022 in Birmingham,
England.
The event will be held from July 28 to
Aug. 8 next year.
CWI said the women’s cricket tournament
will be held for the first time at
Edgbaston.
This follows the CWI board of directors
decision to postpone the 2021
Twenty20 Blaze Tournament and the
2021 Women’s CG Insurance Super 50
Cup until 2022.
The 2021 CWI Blaze competition was
to be the West Indies qualifying tournament
for the Commonwealth Games.
