Making Sense of the Census
Now more
New Yorkers
can complete
the census
in their
language
speech impaired. This means Spanish,
Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean,
Russian, Arabic, Tagalog, Polish,
French, Haitian Creole, Portuguese,
Japanese speakers, and people with
hearing or speech impairments can take
the Census via phone.
So whatever language you speak,
you have a right to be a part of the nation’s
once-in-a-decade count that determines
our communities’ fair share
of billions in federal funding for vital
programs and services including education,
housing, healthcare, nutrition, and
transportation. The more of us who fill
out the census, the more money we get
for schools, roads, hospitals, and more.
And remember, all your responses
are completely confidential and can’t be
shared with anyone outside of the Census
Bureau. There are NO questions
about citizenship or immigration on the
census. Participating in the census is
safe for all.
We are counting on you to get counted
so our communities are seen and heard.
Starting March 12, let’s make it count!

will offer glossaries, print and video
guides, and other information in a total
of 59 languages. So if you’re a Russian
speaker, you can fill out the form in Cyrillic;
if you speak Haitian Creole, you
can fill it out in Haitian Creole; if you
speak Arabic, you can fill it out in Arabic.
Braille and large-print guides will
be available to help those who are blind
or have low vision.
Finally, there will be dedicated
phone numbers in 12 non-English languages
that you can call to complete
the form verbally in your language, in
addition to a Telecommunications Display
