Christmas food distribution begins on Flatbush
By Tangerine Clarke
The Stalwarts Youth organization
in Brooklyn, answered
the call from NYPD Community
Affairs Officer Ronette Benjamin
of the 63th Precinct, who
requested a food distribution,
and got one on Friday, Dec. 1, to
help meet the needs of hungry
residents as the holiday season
approaches.
President of the organization
and community leader, Dimple
Willabus, who has been working
tirelessly since the coronavirus
pandemic began 10 months
ago, showed up with a truck
carrying 1200 boxes filled with
fruits, vegetables and protein,
distributed over three hours to
residents who stood on line from
7 am.
She said, due to food insecurity
that has been tremendous
during the pandemic, the need
has been great, as such, she
stepped the organization’s distribution,
doing so for the first
time outside of 1786 Flatbush
Ave. in 45th Council District,
where the NYPD 63th Precinct
is located.
She expressed gratitude
to partners, including Jessica
Weitz, volunteers and the community
at large, for their support
in handout the food boxes
as food insecurity continues
to plague all of Brooklyn, and
America.
“NYPD Community Affairs
Officer, Benjamin of the 63th
Precinct reached out to Stalwarts
Youth for the day of service,
and we were happy to answer
the call,” said Willabus, who will
be running for the New York
City Council seat in the 46th left
vacant by Council Member Alan
N. Maisel.
Officer Thomas Podd of the
63th Precinct Community
Affairs Department, who was
busy handing out food boxes,
was delighted that the distribution
had come to the district,
and noted that it was important
to connect with the community
especially when residents were
experiencing hardship.
Stalwarts Youth will continue
its Christmas food distribution
on Dec. 18 at the corner of Avenue
L & 95th Street in Canarsie,
Brooklyn, from 9 am.
