Torrential rain prevented West
Indies from salvaging pride, or possibly
a whitewash and they had to
settle for a no-result against New
Zealand in the final Twenty20 International
of the three-match series
on Monday.
Only 2.2 overs were possible before
heavy showers swept across the Bay
Oval and forced players and umpires
to leave the field.
The West Indies were 25 for one
with opener Andre Fletcher not out
on four and left-hander Kyle Mayers,
not out on five, after they were sent
in to bat.
The result meant that the Caribbean
side lost the series 2-0, after
crashing to a five-wicket defeat in
the first Twenty20 at Eden Park in
Auckland a few days before and a
66-run defeat two days later at the

ICC ‘Decade’
Awards

Hard-hitting West Indies batsman
Chris Gayle, as well as West Indies
Women’s captain, Stafanie Taylor and
her teammate, Deandra Dottin have
been nominated for the International
Cricket Council (ICC) Awards of the
Decade.
The Awards of the Decade, a special
edition of the ICC annual award, will
celebrate and reward top performances
in the sport from Jan. 1, 2011 to Oct.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has created
a West Indies’ Women umpire panel
in a bid to improve the talent pool in the
Caribbean.
The initiative is the first of its kind
in the region.
Five women from throughout the
region will soon have the opportunity
to improve their umpiring skills.
Those selected are Vicki Daniel and
Candace La Borde, Maria Abbott, Carolyn
Browne and Bernadette Reid.
A Trinidad and Tobago Cricket
Umpires Council official said there are
under 19 women’s regional tournament
and other women’s teams and competitions.
He said CWI is trying to get more
women involved in the officiating aspect
